Thanks. I'm not quite sure what you mean by using the idea in a novel. How would you use it? And I couldn't find the WHOWMt in your gallery. Could you send me the link.

I guess that's okay. I wouldn't reference it directly (as in refer to the actual name of the bar or the characters). I have a complete story and I'd like to finish it up some day. Know what I mean. And thanks for considering this a worthwhile plot. I really appreciate it.

Thanks. And I was hoping you could smell more 2nd hand smoke than fresh air, but I guess that's a matter of taste

I chose this as my favourite of the series...

Your paintings look like still shots from a crime-television show! They are interesting in that the composition is life-like, not staged.

Thanks. I was trying to give them that Cold Case, CSI, Without A Trace, etc. feel. I'm glad it came across for you. Thank you very much.

From the thumbnail, I mistook this for a photograph and went on without a second glance. Only after seeing it in your journal did I know ...

Thanks. I try hard to make these paintings photo-like. I'm really glad it came across that way.

This is great stuff! Almost too real with oil, I'm hoping to deal with skin color like this later on.

The officers taking down notes as the witness or suspect looks like he is thinking carefully about what happened. And then the windows which shows the rest of the painting which isn't shown without the use of a reflection. Very nice.

hi, i just discovered you in the unknown artist feature - and it is so well deserved! you deserve way more hits and comments
i've really been enjoying looking through this murder mystery series - has it been commissioned or will they go in a gallery? i'm really curious, what a great subject, and beautifully painted too

dcrow In reply to EmmaMount [2006-06-07 22:45:21 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much. I'm trying to work towards a solo exhibit at a local gallery or, perhaps, some rented space somewhere. I just wanted to put together a cohesive series and this sort of evolved. I'm glad you like them. I am really enjoying this series as well.

well good luck with exhibiting them, they deserve exposure
such an original idea, and painted with real talent

dcrow In reply to EmmaMount [2006-06-30 13:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I hope they do get some exposure at some point. Unfortunately, I think I'm going to take a break from this series for a while. I should be posting the last one (for now) in a few days.

I see you have a series.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dcrow In reply to SkaPlunk [2006-06-07 02:55:34 +0000 UTC]

Way too long. I'm probably averaging about 60-80 hours per. Since I'm only a weekend painter, it takes me about 2 months to complete one. At this rate, I'll be done with all 24 about 2008 I'm hoping to put a show together of the first 12 in about a year or so.

I almost just left without commenting in hopelessness coz no comment can express how brilliant this is.

I saw it on the "Underrated Artists" thing, and it was in the "traditional art" section, and i thought "Some idiot's gone and put a photo in the traditional art section"... till I clicked on it and saw it up close and realised it was actually a painting

Top job.

Thanks. I really appreciate it. They are not as photo-like in person for sure, but that's okay. I like paintings that look like paintings too.

I like how you treat light and shade in your paintings.

The policeman hasn't written anything on his pad- is there some deep meaning behind that or was it just an aesthetic decision?

dcrow In reply to aliciaecm [2006-06-07 00:54:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. No hidden message in particular for the blank notepad. Just didn't want to distract from the rest of the work too much. There definitely are some messages in there though...

Heh, and only five faves. When will people learn what's good?

Very nicely done. I love the look in his eyes, like he's actually looking AT something. I love how you handled the contours of his face, which makes it the central pull of the piece. Only thing I can say is maybe that reflection in the window to our left is a bit too perfect, we can't see even a little bit inside the store...or....anything else it's supposed to be. Just my humble opinion, I know the piece is done, but it never hurts....

Did you ref anything for this?

I might have to start following your series.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dcrow In reply to WoahStripes [2006-06-03 19:19:46 +0000 UTC]

I can definitely see your point about the reflection. I've sort of continued that perfect reflection throughout the series and I don't know if I'd want to change it quite yet. That could be a lot of work and I tend to be a really lazy person. I might try it on the next one???

And I did use a photo for this one (as I did the others). I sketched out all the compositions and then I had some friends pose for each scene. I've also added some found images here and there (like the cops in #7).

I'm glad you like the series. I should have another done in a week or two.
