The light and the shading looks so smooth. Did you use colored paper as the base? It really gives it a warm tone.

The textures and reflectivity of the surfaces are just spot-on! Great prept-work. The painting should be stunning.

holy freaking shit. O_O You sir, are amazing. The textures.. -dies- how the hell did you do that with charcoal?? The metal lustre is perfect, and the fruit too. The pitcher details are great.. haha, is that a skull I see reflected in the cup? Wicked.

Okay, I know I totally couldn't draw something this awesome.. but I've gotten used to looking for flaws in still life sort of things, so here goes:

Critique(ignore if you want, I might be being harsh) : the tin/metal cup thing.. saucer? is a bit lopsided/assymmetrical. The way the clothe works is a big vague.. are there two planes here, as the shadow of the pitcher handle implies, or one? Contrasting the shades of the two might help with that.. The grapes are really nice, but look a little similar. Maybe make a few more fade into the bg a bit? I'm not sure about this, but I think the cup needs more of a shadow; compared to the others it looks too light, needs more depth that a shadow can add. Hope that was helpful, if you're planning on going back to this.

There's nothing really wrong. Everything I noticed, I was looking for (hehe, I make similar mistakes) and could only see in the full view. How big is this, irl?

Anyway. Awesome job. I'll definately give you a watch, for this!

how did i do this in charcoal? simple (lol), patience, observation, and correct values.

yeh the saucer is a lil funky but that will b fixed in the painting. the grapes are already looking more individual in the painting (they're thrying to b non-conformists). the shadow of the cup is reallly like that in real life. wen i fwas looking at it i was like "wut the hell? oh well" i guess it might b do to the thickness of the stalk and the distance from the light source. and yeh the backround is too flat. i shoulda done drapery but its a lil late for that but after this is done im gonna do a drapery study.

its 14x17 if i remember correctly

thanks for ur compliments

btw i noticed u rarely use shorthand in ur typing. i respect that. im just lazy lol

its just--whenever I do anything with charcoal I can never erease the sketch properly, lol.(even at 2Bs) Maybe its just the charcoal slabs I use.. they're kind of hard to do 'delicate' work with. I assume you use charcoal pencils? I mean, patient observation correct values yada yada are givens. I just can't imagine being physically capable of making it that smooth or detailed.

Oh, you're doing a painting of this? Awesome, can't wait to see it

You're welcome. Haha--is the laziness why you don't reply to most comments? I'm a writer, so my desire not to butcher the english writer outweighs my laziness. Most of the time.

Also, seeing as you're probably not going to reply to it, how long have you been taking classes? I've only gone on and off, weekly, for a little under a year.. T__T So much left to learn!
