Description
My inspiration was a heart tree from the fantasy story "Game of Thrones" by George Martin. You can even see the tree shape with red leaves in the stone itself. Or even a mirror image in the small pond nearby. The stones natural pattern reminds me of the ripples on the surface of water.Materials: imperial jasper cabochon, Toho and Miyuki seed beads, Fimo polymer clay, aquamarine bead.

Beautiful work! Again, like your use of background, creating a slightly off-white backdrop to more effectively display the white of the piece.
Yes, I like the ripples and how they flow out from what looks like the reflection of a tree branch over your head.

For photo backgrounds, I've gone from white (or cream color) backgrounds to using the same tempered hard-board that I use for a working surface when I sculpt. They have this really nice, lightly textured surface with a medium dark color which seems to highlight my pieces well. There's just enough texture that it doesn't vanish, but not enough to get in the way, and they pick up the light to create a nice gradient behind the pieces. The one problem is that I always have a seam line behind the piece.
Ya gotta be ready to experiment, try new things, risk new approaches, fall down sometimes, and never get too attached to any one method. There is actually some advantage in consistency (creates a visually unified portfolio), but there is always room to grow...

Yup-yup, I couldn't agree more. I've tried the wooden background as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I've got some nearly white wooden backgrounds, so it's only good to use when you could use a cream background. I should get some darker ones.
