The problem is, half life two and it's episodes have a different feel than half life one and its generation related games. It feels like an entirely different game series, what with there being no Nevada desert, Xen, or Race X.

What I mean is, it feels like it went from a nice old timey Quake or Doom type game and suddenly turned into something completely different. It had a 90's feel to it, and now it feels like a 2000's game. It's good, but it's like Jak and Daxter going from a kids game to the gritty rebel game Jak 2, it's like "what the hell just happened!?" as the scout would say.

Maybe, but it just seemed kind of "out of character" y'know? I mean, the original version of HL2 was similar to the final version in terms of storyline, it's just that the finished version is less grimdark than the original. HL1 was all about dark corners and alien horror, but the sequel had a more Star Wars rebel alliance fighting the Empire feel than a dystopian feel. You feel me?

I never felt like HL1 was overly dark. It was kind of gloomy, but, probably, because of the artstyle, graphics and monsters designs it always felt more like a weird thing, rather than the horror.Β
And HL2 was not supposed to be exclusively about horror. More like dystopian, which is still true in the final version, just in more "Hollywoodish" way (like bunch of resistance fighters with RPGs and one superhero, successfully defeats interdimensional army of half-machines, which previously subjugated Earth in 7 hours).
On the other hand Gordon was able to defeat the whole invading force of Xen, despite being just a scientist, so maybe it's par for the course in the HL series / universe.

...I've got the original, i mean the first script of HL2 (as seen in raising the bar) from one of the employees from Valve, so i could try to create a mod with this story... Maybe...
