Surcoat design appears to be Plantagenet English army as commanded by Edward III and his descendants (quartered, golden fleur-de-lys on a blue field set opposite a red field). The only part of that missing is the golden lions on the red field. But otherwise, he seems to be 100-Year's War England in design.Β

It's great, from the shape of the sword to the blasonned coat. Awesome to the last detail !

At first, I thought this would have a Dark Souls 3 tie-in, considering the sword.Β But, then I discovered that it's a very common design for an "executioner's sword", and that was a fascinating discovery XD

Yeah! Reading Gene Wolfe's Shadow of the Torturer, in which the main character wields an executioner's sword that's flat at the end, is what prompted me to look them up. They were flat/square since they weren't used for stabbing, but rather, used only in a downward arc, for lopping off heads and whatnot with the sides of the blade.Β

It's neat to know that the guys at From Software did some research...or maybe they read the same book, it's not out of the question XDΒ This work you do reminds me a lot of the old fantasy comics, where the things were more flat in colors, but very dynamic with shadows.Β Definitely gives it a Heavy Metal magazine vibe.

Reminds me of the movies made by Amando de Ossorio in the early 1970s. Β Specifically the "Blind Dead" series. Β
Cool stuff.Β Β
Where will you be publishing your comic?

Oh yeah, definitely! I'm familiar with them, but actually haven't watched any of 'em yet. Really interested in Tombs of the Blind Dead especially, the visuals look awesome.Β
Not sure yet! I want to totally figure out the story before I start drawing it, and will probably just post pages here or on Patreon (or a webcomic site, possibly) to get an audience for it. If it becomes well-liked, I might self-publish or shop it to indie comic publishers like IDW or Image.Β

Ha, I DID watch the first Blind Dead movie recently. Really cool atmosphere/visuals, but not terribly well written.Β

An executioner sword! SVEEET! It's a great attention to detail! I would love to read whatever it is, I Think you would make great comics. I'm thinking it would be kind of like berserk, but I'm ready for anything.

Ah, you're back! More plot focus then? Sound's good.
I've started making a comic since you last made the rounds. It's a bit more sci-fi though.Β I'm finding panelingΒ very fun.Β

Thanks a ton! This one is a lot newer than stuff like Smiley Guy (which I still plan on doing. Original stuff for the new year is a priority for me this time around). It's a bit simpler so far, with less characters, as I want to use it as a testing ground for writing and planning out a shorter-length comic.Β Β

Deimos-Remus In reply to StarGamerWorld [2018-12-31 22:03:01 +0000 UTC]
Yeah! I want to play around with the idea of a character like this being the protagonist; the basic gist is that he's been resurrected from the dead against his will by sorceress who wants to use him for her own agenda. Want to get into Medieval fantasy territory, but without getting into too much of the heroic/high fantasy vibes of stuff like LOTR (as good as LOTR is).Β
