Well, I can't speak for the Genesis version, but the SNES one, I grew up with. To me, it was like you were actually playing a cartoon. I guess some people looked at it too much like it was just another video game... for the sake of being a video game? Or like, a Sonic clone or something.
Years later, I buy Bubsy 2, and there couldn't possibly have been a more disgraceful and needless nosedive for a sequel to take ANY series. The music was terrible, the premise was terrible, and what was with the mini-games?!
Heheh, I have vauge memories of seeing the pilot for a cartoon based off Bubsy... I don't remember if I even saw the whole episode, but I think it's safe to say it didn't last much longer than the Battletoads cartoon, lol (THEIR mistake was not making the theme the infinitely cooler theme from the Battletoads game itself... ILU Battletoads)

I have played bubsy maybe once, was kind of boring, the jokes were lousy, the jumping mechanics were horrible. The graphics were okay, the music was pretty repetitive, I do agree that it is like a sonic clone.
