...exclamation point!! stupid title restrictions...DRAMATIC LIGHTING + ME = FAIL
This is my first submission to =Gold-Seven 's contest. She's asking people to illustrate scenes or characters from her novel-in-progress. This is Branwyn and Aidan from Chapter 18, when Branwyn sets fire to the wicker screens as they're escaping from Sandycroft. [link] I can't say I'm ecstatic with the way this came out. Half of Aidan just looks like he's disappeared and the thick pencil lines were not the way to go. Also kind of went overboard with the fire. Sigh.
Gold-Seven is an absolutely astounding artist, and if you haven't checked out her work yet, you absolutely need to. Prizes are a commission of her work, which makes me really, really excited, because she's one of my favorite artists on devArt.

I really like the way their faces and clothing and bodies are illuminated by the fire. Very realistic. This shows a lot of complex emotion, it's very good.

looks really cool, i had to double check who i was looking at whos deviation, cause i had several from gold-seven to look at as well and i reconised the characters on this piece ^ ^

My gosh! Amazingly done, the detail is exceptional. You draw hands really well, and I especially love how you did the fire, it looks real!

I don't think the fire feels overboard, considering it did become a sudden inferno and starlte them both. I like it as a backdrop framing the characters. Nice work!

Whee, this is lovely! What I love most about it is how much attention you paid to all the little details - like her gripping his hand, her other hand still "flaming" (nice storytelling there!), and extra points go to making both of them being barefoot.

I was quite confused at first because I saw the names Branwyn and Aiden and the art style looked a little like Gold-Sevens!
I think the flames look a little too solid, but other than that you did a great job! And you're better at dramatic lighting than you think; you did a marvelous job on lighting the bodies! (You should try drawing the fire scene from DH!)

I think the fire looks awesome, and I love how it's reflecting off their faces and her dress. I also like the added touch of having her hand be wreathed in flames. ^^
