SDL my Zan versus ~Masterthecreater 's guy, Cold.Also having a cameo by the lovely ~TheCrowchan
Yesss.. I marked this as traditional, because it's mostly held together by the actual pencil lines I did.. ooOOoo. I did it mostly to be able to work on this whenever fancy struck me, and to be nicer to my arm. I did a lot of in the car on the ride back home from college, actually...
I learned a few things about Zankou while writing this. She's apparently left-handed (atleast in writing/eating) and she has... restless leg syndrome.. which unfortunately for her will not become a real illness until the 2000s. Ehem. But yes, good luck reading her dialogue, I think the best way is to read it slowly, out loud, and mind the punctuation for clues!
*yaaawn* But yes. Any other questions I will answer later.. as I cannot recall what all else I wanted to say. Hyuk.

Truly stunning work, I actually had no problem understanding her. Mimicing accents is one of my odd specialties and, thus, the reading of them has never been a difficulty (though Cold's resigning reply to her ultimatum made me chuckle).

Uhm... the only things digital are the tones (the greys and such) and the panel borders/speech bubbles. All the rest of it was done on paper- it's actual pencils.. rather than most of my work which is 100% digital.

This is really awesome, though. I especially love her lips, so... squishy looking! <3 And the dialogue isn't too bad! Though I admit at some points I think I just guessed... maybe if I had a secret decoder ring it would suddenly be clear? Does it work that way?

Great work as always, nonetheless. And... pencil? Is it quite soft lead, or did you just clean up the lines digitally? They're so ... clear. My scanner eats plain pencil lines =_=

let me see if I get that... rough figures & layout on the computer, print in blue, define a little more with a blue pencil, then draw over that blue with a 2B mechanical pencil, scan it, and fill it out in photoshop?
Always interesting to see how other artists' proccess go... I'm not sure I see why you revert to natural media in the middle, though; are you just trying to stay away from all digital?
(Just thinking that for the sake of not moving around I'd probably either do all of it in layers, or do all in natural --sketch, then ink over and erase that pencil, then color--or scan the remaining lineart and color digital.)
But is it just me, or does a stylus pen go harder on the arm than normal pencils?
Actually, I thought the grain added texture; it makes it somewhat resemble classic manga.

Yep yep, you got that totally right.
Ah! But yeah- I don't always go to paper. Actually, I usually don't. I did this a lot for school projects, because they required "real" pencils. I also do this for Dimensional Breach, a collaborative comic, and I use the pencil so that it matches my partner's artwork better, than if the book was half digital half pencil. But a lot of time I do my comics completely on the computer- like all of Survivor. It's curious- but I'm not sure which is harder on the arm, the tablet or a pencil. I know if I did brush work it'd probably not be as hard pressure-wise, but it'd be a pain, since your palm cannot rest on the paper (lest it smear the ink). But I did this one on paper, since I knew I was moving, and I would not have as much computer time as I would like. So almost all of the pencil work on this was done either coming or going to classes, and then on the car ride home from Savannah.
But yeah, I do myself prefer to work totally digitally- but this sort of thing just gives a different feel/look to the work overall :3 It's just something to do! Gotta mix it up, or get totally bored out of one's mind xD

Hehehe, ahh! No the blue actually, stays right on the paper. I scan it, and then in photoshop I can drop out all of the blue/cyan from the image entirely and BAM, instant cleanup, no mess no fuss.
But yeah yeah :3 I make an effort to be able to do both.
