first person who figure out the... "trick"... in this shot gets any of my shots as a free print...

if no one guesses, no one will know (muahaha)

did you add the feathers on the back of its neck?

very nice shot, i love it.

However the eye seems to be surreal... maybe because of missing eyelashes and surreal form?

Love it

Wait, everything is real?
Even the frame?

That's sort of a long shot...but worth a shot atleast!

Beautiful shot. The focus is amazing!

The border is digitally added haha but that's not the trickery here

gorgeously sharp, beautiful composition. Maybe darken the highlights a little, I think some parts are a little too bright. But it's borderline. Good work!

Thank you... I can see about the brightness but this bird was WHITE!

when you say "trick", do you mean like, a trick to how you took it, or a thing it the picture that is a trick (i.e. the bird is fake...which I don't think it is )

loving the eye.
The posture is weird, but in a really cool way.

Wow, definitely a beautiful capture! Wonderful job with all of the technical details!

As for the 'trick', my guess would be the settings.. quick shutter speed coupled with the 7.1 f-stop to get nice sharp details without over exposing... or maybe you used a filter on your lens?

Delacorr In reply to vividlilac [2006-03-02 03:17:09 +0000 UTC]

hehe nope... sry that was a hard question

but thanks!!

This is really a magnificent shot. You did a great job getting so close and the exposure...well, that's the "trick" I think: The background was whitish/snow but you exposed properly by spot metering off the bird plumage, and thus creating excellent highlights without loosing the bird feather detail. In any case, excellent shot.
A be careful with that 200mm f/2.8L or pretty soon you'll find yourself with a 400mm f/5.6L, or even worse(for your bank account that is)...a 500mm f/4L IS!

Delacorr In reply to arwulf [2006-02-27 12:11:15 +0000 UTC]

yes... I am prepared -- thanks for the warning .. hehe

well yes that was part of the technique don't get me wrong

Such a stunning shot. I just love the texture on the beak. A very remarkable bird. As for the trick, I'm thinking you focused on the eye and/or beak, used DOF to blur out the background and possibly something to do with your f stop? Hmm, I think you've got us stumped.. Fantastic shot.

Aurora-Marille In reply to Delacorr [2006-02-25 21:20:39 +0000 UTC]

Could it be that the background is part of the trick? Perhaps sand or the sky?

grugster [2006-02-25 16:43:45 +0000 UTC]

This is a great shot! So sharp! As for the trick: maybe you create/put the shadow on the eye by photoshop or you made the pupil smaller or bigger than it was in reality!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Delacorr In reply to grugster [2006-02-25 16:59:12 +0000 UTC]

everything in it is real <-- hint

but thanks

grugster In reply to Delacorr [2006-02-25 19:07:48 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, a trick.
I got no clue
Ill be thinking a bit about this then, else nice shot. Good with the blurry background to focus more on the bird, his/her eye catches you first, which is good so you got a good angle going.

Stunning shot of a gorgeous creature.

Perhaps the eye? Either way, doesn't matter.

Great detail in the feathers and beak.

200/2.8L?

But I definitely understand now...

Kuper4 [2006-02-25 11:27:58 +0000 UTC]

great shot!
maybe the sharp black in it's eye is PS? hmm.... or maybe there were some other things around in the frame and you healed them out with PS (caused the black spots above and under the beak)?

r u sure there is a trick here?!
