Sanguine Sanctum
It was hours later before Providence stepped out of Midnite Crux. After sharing information and stories of where he had been during his recent absence, he had taken his leave to attend to another matter.
Providence gazed at the full moon that hung high above New Luxerion before he slowly closed his eyes. He could hear the whispers echoing within his mind, signs of a summoning. And just like any vassal would, he must answer to his sovereign’s call. He whispered the words that she had taught him all those years ago. When he was still human.
He felt the shift then, just as he uttered the last line of his chant. The soft breeze of New Luxerion vanished. The calm winds and even the small random sounds of New Luxerion vanished, replaced by an unnatural stillness. Only then did Providence open his eyes to be greeted by the light of a crimson orb that floated upon a scarlet sky.
His gaze returned earthward to a sight that never sails to instill some sort of wonder within him. How many times had he answered her call? How many times had he traversed the void to appear before her domain? Yet the novelty of bearing witness to it never fades.
Providence started to walk upon marble-like stones that were not there before. He took in the sight of towering statues that were more than likely sentient and watching him approach. This was but another example of her control over this realm, Providence thought to himself. She changed it according to her whims. Was it fancy perhaps, curiosity, or maybe even boredom? Whatever the case was, she twisted and shifted this entire domain to her desires just as easy as one would blink. The only constant thing within this reality was the red orb that floated high in the scarlet skies. Even “she” did not remain constant, Providence thought as he stopped walking to stand before a throne that wasn’t there before.
Upon the throne sat a figure that Providence would recognize anywhere. Not because of her look or any outward physical features for none of those mattered. What he recognized was the authority, the otherworldly aura, and the binding contract that bound him to her as it linked her to him. Providence dropped to a knee, feeling that the gesture was… fitting.
The being in the throne smiled at Providence, before she spoke.
“Faithful vassal”
Hers was a voice of power, of authority, of knowledge older than the stars. Providence remembered the first time he had heard her voice. Back then they were whispers that brought him to her. That was centuries ago and she has changed just as much as Providence did. While her attire, which shifted and changed patterns, was of inhuman making, the form she wore now was closer to that of a human female.
Providence watched as she descended from her throne and walked towards him before she stopped just a feet away from him. Providence looked up at the titanic woman who chuckled before her form shifted and in the blink of an eye was suddenly the same height as he was. She extended her hand to Providence, who took it slowly before placing a kiss upon it.
“Your bidding has been done, Lady Visera.”
She had been called many names in the past. The Red Goddess. The lady of blood. Watcher of the Sanguine Sanctum. Marchioness of Lamentations. Yet decades back, she had decided upon a name for herself. Perhaps it had something with her trying to appear and be more human. Visera smiled as Providence uttered her name. She withdrew her hand and bade him to stand.
"I have watched your actions, and I am pleased with the results. As always you have performed your duties with utmost wisdom. It was wise of you to invoke my name when sealing the gateway. Just as it was wise of you to seek the aid of the one known as Octavia”
Providence rose to his feet and nodded to Visera. “Detective Santori has been of utmost help during this endeavor.”
Visera smiled and tapped her clawed gauntlet against her cheek in thought, “Just as her father was a worthy watcher, I have no doubts that she will rise to the zenith of her birthright in due time.”
Visera turned and in the blink of an eye was back on her throne, assuming once more her giant size.
“Stay vigilant, my vassal. For while there are no tasks for me to place upon you yet, there are still adversities that lurk waiting. For now, provide aid to the detective. And should anything of notable import present themselves in the process, let it be known to me.”
Providence bowed his head once more to the sovereign entity that sat upon the throne. “I will do all that you ask of me.”
