I wouldn't know. I do know that if the character was alive and there was any kissing involved it would likely have been another actor. His choice. Since he got married he wont smooch anyone else nor even Hollywood bump n grind fake it with an actress. I suppose cause you never know... you might feel something/get accidently physically excited.... get a momentary "Ooo she's nice..." and then in his mind that's cheatin'.
It's kinda romantic in it's own right though. If you have an apreciation for the
whole "Lifemate" thing.
I wager her being dead and the son being alive was to keep a little grittiness for the mini series while not being too brutal to the character... son being alive after all. After all the character goes through "Lost your parents... whatever... My family's dead." then later "You SOB you killed them!... What was that? My family's alive!?!" to the later "You saw my family stop by here!? Theyre where?! Awesome thanks!" to the "OMGods! My family's dead!..... (cries at gravesite) Well shyeet." thing.
