my third attempt at the koi fish. took me 4 hours to fold this with a single one dollar bill. i'm giving it to my co-worker deidre.
this is an original design by the genius won park . on a scale of 1-4 with 1 being easy and 4 being very difficult: i give it a 4.

Thank you! That's all in Won Park's design. He has a few other designs where the swirls are the eyes. It's really cool. And yes! A solo bill-- lots and lots of fold.

This was only one continuous bill? how did you make all those scales? does it have an underside or does it only have a top and sides?

Yes, this was a single dollar bill with many, many folds-- takes between 3 1/2 to 4 hours to fold one. The scales were very tedious and probably the easiest part haha. If you flip the fish over you will see that it is hollowed so you would want to lay it flat on its belly.

oh, you should totally try it! my husband bought me a stack of fake dollar bills that look and smell like real money that way i can practice on those and not worry about him stealing one of my models to spend it. it also stops you from tempting yourself to spend it haha..

pft.. i wish i did! you know, my husband was giving me crap that i was taking money and folding them up and not wanting to unfold them. so he went out and searched for the best looking fake dollar bills and bought me a package of 100. they feel like real money and they even smell like it too! so he's like here.. practice on these fake dollar bills which costs about 15 cents each so i can spend my real money!

i found the diagram released by won park on a website and then i ran into a video with him showing you how to make it step by step! i'll give you the link, but you should be aware that you'll need to devote 3-4 hours because it's very complex.

thank you alyssa! it's very, very difficult actually. i don't always have 4 hours to throw away on a regular basis. i think it's because i really enjoy doing it that's why willing to sit through it.
