I don't know much about Gimp, but I'm sure it can be. There may be tutorials here on dA that have a digital painting tutorial for Gimp. And of course- you can outline it however is easier for you.

ah.. you just put the lightest color and then the darker ones
I put each color ._. but it takes way longer to adjust the color to the right place..

It takes practice!! You won't get it completely on the first try, but stick with it! Soon you'll develop your own style of doing it and you'll do what works for you! Good luck!

I do this all with a mouse! No tablet at all ^_^ So it's very possible with a mouse and a lot of patience!

Yeah, I am planning on getting one. I've been thinking more serious about it lately because I want to get into REAL digital painting...like, with the actual "brushstroke" look n_n that's the kind of art I really love.

I love your art, and your digital potraits are awsome! Im trying it out right now, but how did you arrange the layers?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
destianna In reply to jpopqueen26 [2007-05-12 19:52:25 +0000 UTC]
Since I do the skin first (basically the bottom layer) I just piled the other layers on top of that. You can do it however you want though, but it's easier for me to do it that way since I like to work from the bottom on up.

It's a lot of smudging, a lot of music, and a LOT of patience without a tablet n_n I'm hoping to get one soon to see the difference between mouse painting and tablet painting!

nice work, your is much simplier (sp?) then the ones I used to learn off of... now I just sort of go with the flow of things and found my own way of doing it. my bad habit is not adding enough shadow where they are needed. I guess I'm still to chicken, nice tip with the soften tool though never though of using that to help blend things in might try it on this new one and see if it helps. Great tutorial!

Wow, i really like this tutorial, and it gives me a step by step. But I have such problems with digital paintings >< I'll try though with the help of your tutorial, but can I ask? Whats the Smooth Tool?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
destianna In reply to ying-temptra [2006-01-26 23:31:35 +0000 UTC]
Otherwise known as the "soften" tool. ^_^ On my PS it looks like a little waterdrop, but I dunno what it looks like on other versions >_> I hope that helps ..!

ying-temptra In reply to destianna [2006-01-28 19:45:44 +0000 UTC]
Ah I see what you mean, is the 'Blur Tool' perhaps? Thats looks like a waterdrop. Yeah I found it. But how will you use it for digital painting?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
destianna In reply to ying-temptra [2006-01-28 21:22:42 +0000 UTC]
I use it to just soften the painting, for instance like on the skin where it's been blended into another colour, soften around there and it'll blend easier ^_^
