I think so yes, it's really dark and kinda depressing at times, and has really intense gore and some sex, but overall it's a really addictive mind altering series, if you can make it through the first one, I had it as a book on tape so it was nothing to me, but I've heard several people comment that it was too slow for them. But it'll put a bunch of new and interesting phrases into your vocabulary and greatly boosts ones nerdiness scale.
