Finally got a ref for my boi here! This lizard man is Saleem, who's sort of a traveling bard.Rough description of him would be understanding, charismatic, determined, and positive
He exists in the same universe as Talice and Rigor

What was your inspiration for his markings, pallet, and general design?

Well color wise I wanted him to be a bright character without being too clashy, while also avoiding pastel cause that made him seem too light/passive, really wanted to get something bold looking
And for the markings I wanted him to be very complex and decorative, but making them random would make it damn near impossible to replicate them, so by making a little marking/symbol and repeating that I sort of got a more complicated looking design while still being replicatable. It was basically just trying to find ways to cheat into him looking real complicated but be simple enough to be consistent
And yeah overall I just wanted a bright, bold, and very intricate/beautiful lookin boi
Also if you look at his frills there's little heart patterns in there

Oh my gosh I just noticed those, those are super cool. I absolutely love them. Thanks for taking the time to reply with your inspiration, itβs always super interesting to hear the thought process behind a particular piece, and thanks for the tip on how to do complex with repeatable patterning. Iβll be sure to use it when I do more digital art, sort of stuck with traditional at the moment, but itβs NBD everyone has to start somewhere.

Yeah no problem! It's interesting to sort through and really think about these things, I guess I just kind of do them without realizing it while working on character designs.
And best of luck getting into digital! I know the feeling of getting stuck in traditional at first, but keep at it and the practice definitely pays off. Also I'd recommend checking out Fire Alpaca, it's completely free software and it's what I use, super easy to get a hang of too. And I mean, if you've already got the software taken care of that's one less cost to consider (it's just down to tablet from there) Best of luck my dude~
