Is Cyborg 009 an anime?

Cyborg 009 is originally a manga from 1963, but it was worked on until the manga-ka's death in 1998, with three anime series and four (?) movies, and I think a live-action movie is in the works. I draw based upon the most recent 2001 anime version.
It deals with nine people from different parts of the world who have been kidnapped by the war-mongering organization Black Ghost and turned into cyborgs against their will. They rebel, and escape to try and live the lives they lost, but Black Ghost continually tries to recapture them, so their lives are still ones of warfare, as they were designed for.
It's an amazing series, pointing out racism, and intrigue and subterfuge from the Cold War. It's amazing to me that a young, poor Japanese man was able to do something like this in post-war Japan!
