Stunning! She looks evil and beautiful just like she should. And damn right, she's the one true Black Queen!

This is such a freaking great picture of Selene. Older than Moses and looking oh so good. The right diet can really do wonders. I recently watched "300: Rise of an Empire" for the first time and I honestly can't think of anyone but Eva Green play this role.
I love the concept of Selene (an immortal vampire mutant witch, what's not to love?) but all the stories I've read featuring her have her usually in a background role, playing her games from the shadows and only really facing off good guys when they complain about her eating habbits. The only story I remember her really being an active evil doer was when X-Force stopped her from getting some ancient power artifact (I forget the details but I'm pretty sure it was some kind of a burning man gathering), and later luring Sunspot to join Hellfire Club (did that plot go anywhere?). As such I'm a bit lost on what exactly motivates her, what are her goals? With other big X villains I get them: Stryfe wants to make people he believe wronged him suffer, Sinister wants to study and experiment on mutations to see how far they can be taken and the Big A wants to, rather needs to, put humanity through hardships and challenges to cull the weak. But what does Selene want? Can you explain that to me? I'd be grateful.
Ps. I know that she tried to become a living god in the Necrosha story but I'm willing to wager that is not the "true black queen" you speak of.

Oh that's a perfect choice. And the way they designed Xerxes ? Make it Geigeresque and you have an excellent design for Apocalypse !
To answer your question, her primary motivation is survival due to thanatophobia. The reason she tends to not be too active is because efforts can cost her (plus at her age, you know, too much effort in unhealthy XD ) so she has to keep snacks around her.
That X-Force run (and YES, it's VERY unfortunate that it was unceremoniously cut short...) is probably my favorite use of her. The fact that Dani showed her her greatest fear (aging and croaking ) humanized Selene a great deal for me.
Necrosha could have been great... IF it were handled by John Francis Moore and was the project Selene had after swaying Sunspot by her side. THAT would have been greatΒ with Cable and X-Force and if the "resurrected" actually had an emotional impact on the protagonists instead of being forgotten after 1 panel or 2. So, Selene was like the only good thing about it. OF COURSE she is completely thrown away by the most hacked out anti-climax because we need to sell Second Coming next week... GOD the Messiah trilogy SUCKS !

I really like these new colors! And this is the first time I've noticed her holding something. Considering her appetite I'm alnost afraid to ask what it is.

It was not said till the Craig/Yost bastardization of X-force... IF you ever read it, wrap your head around this: Selene, Bastion and Stryfe are the only likable characters in it.

I had a suspicion that was not established in the good X-men years.
Dude, reminds me of Fraction and Brubaker's run where the only really compelling character was Magneto

Yeah and then he bowed down to Dicklops ! XD Who knew segregation was the way to the future ! But don't ever like the 90's X-men, you know, the heroic ones... because they wear colors and pouches ! XD
The funny thing is , age aside, the origin itself is quite fitting for her. Her "leeching" abilities were basically her lifeline, so she had to learn how to master the occult to surviveΒ !

And convinced one mutant hating man who commanded sentinels after Onslaught that killing mutants is not the way.
So, you think she being older than Apocalypse is actually a good idea?

Was it Bastion or Senator Kelly ? I need to remember that detail...
Older is not that bad an idea... except that Yost and Kyle made Selene 17000 years old ! Like wow, that's a bit too much ! And in all this time she did not find the celestial ship or the makluan vessel that Apocalypse and the Mandarin would find ?! That was a bit much. She still is the only likable character in Necrosha though...

Bastion, Senator Kelly by that point was kind of getting soft at the mutants.
Okay
