I've often seen nudity used in artwork as a symbol for essence, purity, or vulnerability. I'm tempted to say purity in this case because of the title of this picture and the fact that their eyes are closed.

My belief is that one must examine the context of nudity before jumping to conclusions about it. If it's done in a non-sexual manner, as it many times is, like in this picture, it can be a great artistic tool to communicate or symbolize something.
A suggestion I have regarding drawing pictures with nudity: if you're not trying to suggest something sexual with the nudity, draw the figures unclothed but without visible details, i.e. make them look like those bases you often see floating around DA.
