This is beautiful, by which I mean beautifully rendered. Cthulhu on the other hand is not even close to being beautiful. Another wondrous piece from and amazing artist!

I find it interesting about how you portrayed him with horns. It dives him a devilish undertone. Mighty fine job, if I may say so.

Cthulhu!!!
H.P. Lovecraft would be proud
I especially like how much his wings resemble hands (knowing wings are a mutation of forelegs) and how he has a pair of arms anyways.

Hey Dan,
Would you mind telling me how you get such a "smooth" feel to every painting, is it some sort of medium or technique?
I'm very curious I can never get that result, you pull it off clean.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DH666 In reply to 00useless [2011-07-03 17:23:35 +0000 UTC]

Masonite always comes out really smooth. I use more glazing on that. With canvas I'll use Liquin to thin down the paint to get a smoother look. Plus using a larger canvas helps. The smaller you go the harder it is to pull that off.

00useless In reply to DH666 [2011-07-03 23:15:16 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot for your response,
Could you point me in the right direction of what to use as far as liquin / varnish / what to use for glazing?
As you know these products are not cheap, I'd like to get the best product for the money without wasting to much in trial and error.
Sorry if I'm pestering you with all of these questions but when I go to look for anything I get hit with a cluster-fuck of all kinds of different shit and don't know where to turn.

I don't mean to use you as google, but the thing with that is, some people use this, some use that, you know your shit so I wanted to ask you first hand.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DH666 In reply to 00useless [2011-07-09 13:48:26 +0000 UTC]

Glazing I'll use either Liquin, which you can find at most any art store and is a little pricey or odorless mineral spirits. You can find that at places like Home Depot or any home improvement store and is a lot cheaper. You just have to get the feel for them. Liquin is a lot thicker and you have better control with it. Where as thinner is well...thinner lol. It may run on you but keep at it you can get some good effects with it. I also use Liquin as sort of a varnish. Oh, there is also a fine detail Liquin which is a little harder to find but definitely worth buying if you see it.
No worries at all. Email or message me anytime

I can't thank you enough for helping me out and answering fans Dan, very admirable of you.
I'll try to help you out and purchase your book once I set up a Paypal account, I'm sure it's awesome.
Would you mind if I e-mailed you some pictures of paintings I've done, so you can give me some insight, advice or critique, or would that be too weird?
