Description I have only recently started making ASCII logos and this was my first try on fractura/medieval lettering. It was made for the Christmas #asciicompo on EFnet, where you were supposed to draw either "Dark Domain" or "BBS Documentary". I placed third in the "newschool" category. Hardly any of the entries were even ASCII art, pretty much everyone else used extended characters.

The time limit was three hours, there were no size limits (besides 80 characters horizontally), but I aimed for 80x25. I like the upper part of the picture, but obviously the second word is too plain compared to it - but there was no more space available for decorations. I used three different fonts as references, this logo incorporates elements from all of them and something else, too. The slogan was invented by a friend, I found it so silly I just had to include it.

Also very nice. Sorry, I had no time yet to enjoy all your deviations and spend the time necessary to appreciate them.

Thanks! The comments and favorites mean a lot coming from such a textmode veteran as you. Much appreciated.

You are welcome and also thank you for the pleasure of sharing it. I mean it. Keep up the good work. It's good to see that the Art of Text Art Creation is still carried on. You see, my time here at dA also had some positive effects on me. I started doing some new Text Art again after several years of inactivity and negligence of this classic art.

The lettering and curves flow magnificently. I think the slogan is a too brighter part, and I agree with you for the too plain part (maybe more big left and right borders for open the space?), but the whole piece is very GRACIOUS.

I'm a sucker for medieval lettering and very fond of ASCII art (as I'm sure you've noticed) so this (and the briliant slogan) just has to go on my !!

The slogan in the centre could be a bit more... er... centred. The antialiasing is nice, but was this handmade or made with an editor?

(Wow, that sounded like I knew something).

Completely handmade, I don\'t do conversions. I didn\'t use any brushes or other tools in JavE, either.

I\'ve yet to see an ASCII converter that can handle antialiasing properly. Usually the best way to distinguish a converted grayscale piece from a hand-made one is that most converted pieces look really good as far as the shapes go, but the edges are very messy and the antialiasing is usually non-existent or random and crappy.

I agree that the slogan looks a bit weird where it is, but I couldn\'t find a better location for it.

This looks very cool! The "Dark" is especially nicely done. Mmmh that reminds me of the "old days" when I coded a bit but spend more time decorating my sourcecode with headers and the like. No wonder I never completed a bigger project then. Although I often used extended charcters like those lines and corners(they don't show up right under windows what is that called then btw?). Besides the usual text editor is there any special prog for ascii art?

(since `diamondie never replied to your comment, I felt free to do it myself)

Besides text editors such as Edit, Notepad, Vi, Emacs and such, there are some programs specially created to make textmode art.

PabloDraw and ACiDDraw are quite good. PabloDraw can work in IBM-DOS font (either 80x25 or 80x50) and Amiga font. You get additional tools like being able to cut/copy/paste rectangular selections, and a preview window that displays your work in a thumbnail. It also has a collaboration option in which you can work with another artist in the same picture, through the net. It works both for ASCII art and ANSI art.

Some people use JavE . It offers a wider variety of fonts, the same cut/copy/paste, and some photoshop-like tools, such as brushes and clipart. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners, because those tools make you forget what it is to draw by hand.

cool! The most I've ever done with ascII/ANSI is the banner command in a linux console

Do you think it's out of ordinary? To me it seems like half of ASCII artists are female.

Excellent work. Reminds me of some old school nfo's I have somewhere. Very nice job with the characters though (and the touches of extra detail).

The medieval font type can be recognized immediately. I also like the decorations on the D and K in the upper half. I know nothing about ASCII Art, but if you hadn't mentioned it, I wouldn't have noticed the missing decorations on the word in the lower half, so I believe it doesn't diminish the overall appearance.
