Hello everybody!
Due to the fact that I've had some kind of an artist block, I had not updated my gallery for long. The only thing I've been able to do lately is to finish this painting. It had been commissionned by ImagineFX, the workshop can be seen in ImagineFX issue 26 (december issue)
This is quite different from the published version since I have had time to refine it (I had to meet a deadline then, and my old monitor died during the painting process, so I had no choice but to submit a "not-so-refined" painting. Anyway, all the techniques were explained and detailed, I used the same ones to finish it

No reference (though he looks EXACTLY like my ex-boyfriend. I am pretty happy with the likeness... I challenged myself painting him from memory. Nice exercise by the way!)

The birds are so cool and the details in the man's skin are great! You can practically feel the heat, and you really made the flames of birds look like it is in motion.

Flaming skeletal birds, alright! You can't go wrong with those. I love the warm colors bouncing off the characters and especially the costume design. You always come up with the neatest costumes; not overly ornate or too plain. The folds in the guy's clothes look totally natural and his ruffles equals love. I heart pirate ruffles. I especially love how the cold smoke is coming out of her mouth. Really shows just how cold it is there. The extreme yellow in their eyes kind of freaks me out. It seems so unnatural. I'm not sure the whites would pick up that much color and the irises would be the point of relfection. I get the feeling that you're trying to show age in the man's eyes but there are too many tiny wrinkles. Crow's feet are more large lines and here it looks leathery. Also, the snow on the top of his head seems like it would've melted considering the proximity to that flaming bird there yonder. But as always, great illlustrations. Do you plan on becoming an illustrationist.

These are not meant to be wrinkles actually, but "skin" texture⦠he's not really human

Ah I see now. It's similar to the girl's lines. Illustrator, yeah that's what they're called. I tend to make up words.

You never stop to amaze me with the care you pay to details of clothes. The only think that seems a bit weird to me is the lace on his sleeve (and under neck too, but that is better), maybe the border is too thick, not sure, but it looks kinda cheap or unnatural for otherwise such an outstanding pic.

But I think this one is one of your best refinements. I liked it formerly already and I thought that it isn't possible to get even more skilled, but you've proven it, ahaha. Very cool.

Did you use any reference for the clothes in that picture? They're almost to detailed and awesome to be wholly created in a single head.

I love how the winter element is looking in facination as the winter is melted by the summer and his birds. I think the skeletal look works well as they are destroying the ice she has created. It looks a little sad in a way... I just get the impression from the faces that they are drawn to each other but are only with once another for a few breif days...Lol Im so silly!
