The Animarians are a race of humans found who call the lands of Asvorale on the world of Vir home.

Long ago these pale skinned humans once hailed from the isles of Animare where they practiced all manner of dark magic. Chief among these magics was and is necromancy and death magic. In fact much of Animarian culture revolves around the practice of necromancy with the arts permeating almost all aspects of their society and culture. Though additionally they are known to dabble in demonic magics and other forbidden arts as well. On Animare there constant use of dark magic lead to the slow and gradual corruption and poisoning of the surrounding seas. This gained them the ire of a race of aquatic serpent men known as the Vem-Na, who in an act of vengeance stormed the isles leading a bloody genocide that culminated in the sinking of Animare beneath the sea. What remained of their people fled by boats, eventually landing in the land of Asvorale where they laid down roots once more.

In Asvorale their prevalent use of necromancy and death magic had a similar effect on the land. Plants withered, trees greyed and gnarled, the dead became restless, and wildlife slowly wastes and rots away from disease. The land was once lush forests, verdant farmlands, and beautiful shores though corruption has since left it a gloomy echo of its former beauty. During their initial arrival in Asvorale the Animarians found existing humans already residing there, and through deceit and bloody conflict took direct control over the land—intent on remaking Animare there. The native Asvoralian humans were subsumed into Animarian society and culture, though there are still native humans who despise what has become of the land and harbor bitter resentment towards their pallid conquerors and colonizers.

In their society the most skilled and powerful necromancers often hold the most sway and power, with ancient and powerful liches and the mighty Deathwalkers ruling in the upper echelons of society, these individuals usually coming from one of the many noble houses that are known to constantly strive for power and influence. Additionally undead Animarians are numerous, with many Animarians commonly seeking undeath as a means of immortality. As a result it is not uncommon for families to be rather large, due to deceased relatives being reanimated in the form of intelligent undead.

Animarians themselves are easily distinguished from other humans due to their pale alabaster skin, which is speculated to be a direct result of constant exposure to death related magic over the ages. Their hair is commonly black or white, and black hair commonly having white highlights. Their eyes range in a variety of colors such as blue, white, silver, yellow, purple, green, and even black. The color of their eyes also known to change based on different types of magic they may practice, and it heterochromia is not uncommon. Visible corruption is also known to manifest in a variety of forms, such as black veins beneath the skin especially in active practitioners of necromancy. Despite their culture, Animarians are considered a very charming and eloquent race, and both men and women are viewed as notably attractive by many—well those Animarians who's skin hasn't corrupted and decayed that is. The Aanathi of Darmingar are known to actively trade and treat with the Animarians on various matters.
