Description ZEDUS

Powers and Abilities:

* Powerful hind-legs allow Zedus to kick with devastating force and leap great distances.

* Muscular, flexible tail can be utilized as a weapon.

* Capable of climbing.

* Adaptations to living underwater include nostrils at top of snout and very large lungs. The latter provides tremendous stamina while on land.

* Hollow structures on back collect seawater absorbed through the skin. Underwater, this can be siphoned out through openings in the tips to provide boost. On land it is stored to keep Zedus' skin from drying out.

* Tongue is long, rapidly extendable, and barbed. Ends in a hardened bone spike used to pierce armor and impale flesh.

History:

[Guardian of the Universe]

Unbeknownst to the modern world, Gamera was not alone. His rebirth, momentous though it was, was only the beginning. He was a part of something larger, far larger, and soon the fate of the world would rest on his shoulders. After a millennium of peace, The Cycle had begun anew.

Zedus was the first to awaken, his appearance heralded by a "mysterious" chain of disasters at sea. Unfazed by the military's attempts to stop him, he quickly cut a swath of destruction through the coastal villages, heading toward Ise-Shima... the home town of Yoshiro Unchida.

Driven to protect the people of Earth, and especially his young caretaker, Gamera quickly appeared to confront Zedus. The battle was fierce but brief; in trying to move the fight to less populated terrain, Gamera had given his foe too much quarter. In the Ise-Shima state park Zedus defeated Gamera, mortally wounding him with his tongue and kicking him down a mountainside.

The battle had not been a complete loss, however. Many lives had been saved by Gamera's actions, including his friend's. Zedus had changed directions after the battle, missing Yoshiro's home and the greater part of Ise-Shima as he now headed for the Chubu region. In the meantime, Gamera had already pulled into his shell and begun to heal.

By the next day, Zedus was in Tsuruga. His rampage had not slowed, not even during the night, but luckily the countryside yielded few victims. As he marched on in search of prey, Gamera appeared again- soaring toward the violent monster to finish what he'd started.

With little around him to watch out for, Gamera held back nothing. He struck with all of his might, battling the killer lizard to a standstill and pushing him even farther away from civilization. Then, having learned from his past defeat, Gamera aimed for Zedus' tongue- tearing the deadly appendage off and instantly turning the battle in his favor. With victory now in sight, Gamera fought on and destroyed Zedus, blasting him to pieces with a powerful fireball.

With the populace safe and his enemy eradicated, Gamera took to the sky. Back in Ise-Shima, his biggest fan cheered to the TV coverage.

History:

[Destroyer of Mankind]

Unbeknownst to the modern world, Gamera was not alone. His rebirth, terrible though it was, was only the beginning. He was a part of something larger, far larger, and soon the fate of the world would rest on his shoulders. After a millennium of peace, The Cycle had begun anew.

Zedus was the first to awaken, his appearance heralded by a "mysterious" chain of disasters at sea. Unfazed by the military's attempts to stop him, he quickly cut a swath of destruction through the coastal villages and began heading for larger settlements.

Gamera, unconcerned, made no move to stop him. As Zedus devoured the inhabitants of Ise-Shima, The Destroyer continued his own rampage, setting flame to the industrial coast of Ise Bay. The monsters laid waste to everything around them for the next three days, causing millions of dollars in damages, until finally they crossed paths.

Inevitably lashing out at his competitor, Zedus ambushed Gamera in Nagoya. The resulting battle was a devastating one, tearing down skyscrapers and killing thousands. After a fierce deadlock leading into the late evening, Gamera finally gained the upper hand. Blasting the spines on his enemy's back, he released the water inside: drenching the streets below and denying Zedus of his means of staying on land.

Drying out even faster from the exposure to Gamera's breath, Zedus bid a hasty retreat, scrambling desperately for the sea. Refusing to show mercy, Gamera took to the air and pursued. He cut Zedus off at the shore, quickly confronting him and dragging him away from the beach. With the sea plainly in sight, Gamera let loose his fiery breath and blasted Zedus into a towering, screaming inferno.

With victory achieved, Gamera tucked in his legs and flew into the sky, leaving nothing behind but smoldering ash.

Jirass is an Ultraman kaiju, who like Zedus has a frilled neck. Jirass' design alone is actually a modified showa Godzilla suit.

He looks pretty awesome here, DH. The look on his face seems very sneaky and mean, and that coloring technique really does look very nice.

Well now this is neat. We get to see two versions of history, with the heroic Gamera on one end and the savage Gamera on the other. Zedus proves to be a great first encounter for both, showing their respective natures.

I have question regarding the spines, did Zedus have that water storage ability to start with or was that something you added for this version?

Actually, DH and I have started "think tanking" and that was one of my ideas lol, as well as the basic "cycle" concept.

Oh cool. That actually fleshes out Zedus a bit more than just 'another Gamera lizard kaiju with a long tongue' thing he had going. It also explains why he came out of the ocean in the first place. You can bounce ideas off me too if you want. I've seen almost every Gamera film so I'm confident in being a feasible resource.

Zedus, the antagonist monster I never had the pleasure of knowing of. Not sure if he was a dinosaur or what.
