Description

In most places everyone would agree that one minus one equals zero, right? Not in Lerna. One minus one equals two in Lerna.

Clan: Esuriit

Movement type: Charge. Hold X to continuously rush forward. Precise control is lessened and you cannot block or attack while charging, but move faster than normal and damage everything in your path. Charge ends when you release X, run directly into a wall or enemy Legend, or are intercepted by a heavy attack.

Roar Effect: Chorus. The old swamp-wyrm belts out a cacophonous black “tune” that only it could ever appreciate. Initially Chorus has no effect whatsoever, but each time Regeneration triggers it gains a little more potency, granting minor healing over time. Said healing duration is extremely short but extends every time Chorus powers up. Cooldown time ranges from short to long depending how potent Chorus has become.

Active Special: Bog Breath. The stench of the Hydra’s lair is like an elegant bouquet of spring roses compared to what comes out of its mouth. The gaseous projectile it spits peters out at about mid-range but will explode into a toxic cloud if it hits anything solid. The number of projectiles Bog Breath spits increases each time Regeneration is triggered.

Cooldown time ranges from medium to very long depending on how potent Bog Breath has become.

Passive Special: Regeneration. Two heads are better than one, but the Hydra can do better than that. Every time it loses an amount of HP equal to 50% its total health it will grow two new heads and incrementally increase its attack power. The Hydra starts each match with just one head, but Regeneration can trigger up to four times, resulting in a total of nine heads! The cumulative effects of this ability are strictly per-instance, however; if the Hydra dies or a new round begins it will next appear with only one head.

Light attacks: Rapid bites

Heavy attacks: Nose uppercut, bodyslams, and tail sweep

Grapple: If the Hydra catches its enemy offguard with O or wins a clash (O and the enemy also grapples or blocks) it will coil around them, bite down with all its mouths, and tug in different directions.

Defense Type: Block. Hold L1 or R1 and the Hydra will curl up on itself to block attacks.

The Hydra is a uniquely dangerous Legend that embodies the saying “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. It automatically keeps track of exactly how many hitpoints it’s lost during a match and each time that number adds up to the equivalent of half its total health it becomes just a little bit deadlier. Enemies fending off the Hydra would be wise to deal with it early and keep constant pressure on it, especially if it has allies who can lend support, because the longer it’s allowed to live the more insurmountable an obstacle it will become!
