Just found this Denis. It thrills me to know that something so wonderful can be found. Is it in a crypt? It is surreally beautiful and makes me smile and breathe easily.

It is located along the side facade of the Franciscan church. Above this is a sculpture of the crucifix. This surreal beauty, as I believe, comes from its bizarreness.

My mistake. In Croatian language bizarre means something more, not just strange or peculiar, but also something that is near to kitsch and to populist taste. Attempt of lowering God from the heights and to give him human characteristics is an expression of folk beliefs. It was one of the policies of the Catholic Church, especially Franciscans, to get closer to the taste of the masses.
Such a (substantial) God and Christ is essentially different than victorious or abstract one from the previous periods. The masses simply are not able to conceive of a God who is not literally like them. Given that the political power of the Catholic Church has become impaired, it became necessary to please those tastes.
In this context, bizarre means also something that diverts attention from the usual, and thus arouses the brain to react. This way of provocation of the brain is a typical tactic of Surrealism.
