Description For the first time ever, I spent more time on the background than I did the character. It was a terrible experience I hope to never have again.

I also feel a dark and sudden urge to burn down trees. All of the trees.

hmm, so sometimes I forget things, like where I get brushes.

The background is beautiful! I can feel the tall grass whistling in the wind The stone that have stood the strain of time and have formed a everlasting landscape. The background alone is a sight to behold. However the flow of the tree is sightly shrewd. It feels like it is slowly dying. The sylvari stands out sharply but not in a good way or in the right places. I see where you made her skin darker but you forgot her face aside for her lips. I am not sure but I think she needs some yellow and brown because the work has a Fall feel to it.

Well, I spent some more time on the tree, it did look like it was dying so I've added moss as well as leaves to help give a spring rather than fall feeling.

And as her face and hands are in light while her body is shadowed I felt it was fine as is. She is supposed to be a white Sylvari so I feel extremely reluctant to add more shading and color. White things are one of the hardest things to paint (at least for me) and I already worry her body is too dark.

Her seems to shine but still looks like a mask connected to her clothing.

I'll give it a month then come back to this piece. Sometimes I can't see my art for what it is and I just need time away from it.

Oh no, I love critique! It really helps, but sometimes I get pouty because I've worked on a piece for so long I just want it to be done >.>

It really shows though; that you put a lot of effort into the background. It's really impressive, and the borders alone are astounding and would be able to stand on their own as amazing art.

You've done the organic characteristics of the sylvari well in your interpretation, although i percieve her hands more as gloves than the actual hands, as far as sylvari now may go. It's hard though to percieve what is "clothes" and "body" when it comes to them, which makes them rather peculiar and exciting

is where I got the border brushes, but thank you so much for reminding me that I needed to link to them. I actually forgot where I got them from and had to do some digging. Although I really should be less lazy and do my own borders.

Thank you! I actually have no idea how their hands are, as from the screenshots they just look sort of like wrinkly pea pods or something. So when I drew them I just shrugged and decided to roll with the fact that it can be hard to distinguish their clothing from them. She might actually be entirely naked behind that tree, I have no idea.

Thanks for the link! Heh, no shame to get help and inspiration to make ones art reach higher and assist to form ones own unique style.

Yeah, I can't quite make them out either and would propably leave them more plain looking or covered by a distinct layer of 'cloth'. Well, she might and might not. Not that i think they percieve nakedness the same way as the krytan humans, and is simply a conscious, estetic choice and/or protective layer as a remnant and distant thought left by the human Ronan (if i remember the name correctly).

...diving dangerously into lore theory here

But, they're evil, Mina. EVIL. We have to burn them to save ourselves.

I'm pretty sure backgrounds are the bane of any artist's existence (except I guess artists that specialize in them?).

You did an amazing job. It's beautiful and I love all the texture. And the Slyvari's hair is adorable.

They are, I don't think I've ever heard an artist say they love drawing backgrounds.

Thanks! Her hair took waaay longer than it should have, for a while it was on 5 separate layers that I was adjusting.

It's beautiful, though... ;_;

But yeah, I can't do backgrounds to save my life - I'm always amazed when someone can do a background as detailed as this.

Other than the tree of madness, it was actually pretty easy. The only thing I did without brushes were the flowers and rocks (still not counting the tree of madness),so the rest really didn't take that long.
