Very smooth work. The face looks strong and powerful but the color of her eyes look too beastly. The Sylvari looks to be a weed based on the color of the background and her skin. It would be nice if you had different parts a lighter or darker shade and as I look at it more the leaves look too sharp to the point of being metallic. To make it have a bigger impact you should strengthen the eyes to make it stand out more. The leaf degeneration on the chest wrap kind of warps the drawing out of whack. It needs to be shapter at the neckline. Nevertheless it is good work.

What do you mean her eye color looks beastly? Is it too saturated?

I probably will change her top, I wanted it to look like one of the ingame tops, but I didn't use anything else from the outfit so it doesn't really matter.

the leaf sharpness is a pretty easy fix too.

Like the way a cat's eyes glow in the dark. I feel it needs to bright but not like a predator.

Sorry. Do not mind the part about different parts a lighter or darker shade.

I love these sylvari. If I tried to draw one, it would take forever, especially if I was trying digital like you are.

I'll settle for cosplaying them. Someday. Eventually.

Thank you!

I'm jealous, I would love to cosplay a sylvari, but my sewing skills are...lacking. And I'm pretty sure making a costume would take way longer than a drawing.

Awesome! I love the muted tones and the overall composition! Does this still qualify as a speed paint? O_O

*sweeps other comment away* well I stayed within the time I gave myself, actually I think I was done 30 minutes before my time was up, so I'm getting faster, yay!

lol, damn that's fast and such good quality too! Uhm..so how long in total? 2.5 hours?

DiraMurkeHeol In reply to ArtOfRivana [2012-06-13 16:01:10 +0000 UTC]

A little closer to 3, where I had been aiming for 4. But I was also a little distracted, so the last 30 min - hour was not nearly as productive.

Ah cool! Still a good timeframe considering how detailed it is and it's actually half body. O_O I think my portraits take 3-4 hours, maybe a little more. I work on them sporadically and always distracted to even have a reliable estimate on how long it takes me >_<

Yea, I normally spend 2+ (usually closer to 3) hours on hair and then 4+ on faces. But I'm trying to do these speed portraits, so I can start doing commissions like you.

Whoa yeah that's a long time for a portait! I should time myself next time...but I dont think I'd be doing portraits until the next month, I did them too much already for now. Been wondering when you'd actually decide to start commissions, I am glad you're getting around to it.

Considering I spend 24+ hours on things like Dancing in Divinity's Reach, 6 hours feels like nothing.

How do you get people? Do they just see your page, and note you or do you have it up somewhere like the forums here?

Yikes, yeah that sounds painful lol.

I join groups and submit my art there, I post in the forums here from time to time though not as much anymore and also advertise in the Job Services forums if I am up for commissions. It's basically just a matter of getting your art scene. It's hard to rely on people just stumbling upon your artwork through your profile. I'd say that search tags in artwork help too and drawing lots of fanart <-this one, I don't do much though but I figured it would help. I am just lazy and love eon characters too much haha

Very nice indeed. I love her expression and the background is lovely too. You are becoming quite the sylvari artist.

Thank you!

Now I just need to work on texture, I got it right on her top, but I think her skin needs some... But in game they don't really have a texture other than shiny and the ridges on their faces.

DarkTentacles In reply to DiraMurkeHeol [2012-06-13 17:52:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, much of their skin texture in game reminds me of stems plant stems. They are often quite smooth and shiny. Btw do you have a favourite out of the screenies I posted? What do you think of the Sylvari updo?

The one I like the overall look of best is probably [link] but I love the armor on [link] Oh! also did you see the all white sylvari in Divinity's reach? She's right next to the bank.

By updo do you mean the ponytail one? It's my favorite hairstyle I've seen other than Caithe's.

Thats weird, the links u gave me just took me to the gallery. xD I saw the white one in Snowden Drifts in the first beta, if its the one I think it is. You need to take some screenies too next beta.
Nah the updo is the 1 I did 2 pics of with a front and back view. NPC 2.

The ones I tried to send links of were Sylvari Female NPC 5 and Sylvari Female NPC 3
I do need to take some screenies >.> I keep meaning to, but I just get so distracted by everything that I end up not taking any pics.
ah I see! I do like that style!

I know what you mean. That's why I didn't bother with videos. xD
I like those too! I also like 7 and 12. ^^ I'm really happy about the updo. I kinda want to recreate Lulu from Final Fantasy X as my sylvari elementalist and that updo foliage looks suitable. ^^
