Love the way you make all the lights have that star shape, it's really cool.

You'd suggest a white border instead for the fire shot? Hadn't thought of trying it with a shot that had so many highlights, but it could be interesting. The original is on another computer that isn't coming anytime soon, but I'll play with the .jpg for kicks.

Spectacular image. Real drama. That is the most fierce red i have seen for a long time. Makes me think of bombs going off. And also reminds me of some outrageous forest fires i saw in Cape Town a few years ago. The flames almost devoured the city.
Great shot.

This is a wonderful example of using negative space to really emphasize a point... the buildings are a great backdrop, but it's really all that firey sky that is the real focal point. The mix of oranges and reds really make this look like the end of the world.

Hope you're having a nice time in Michigan.
River Rouge has a really interesting and beautiful history.
If you can, try to make nick take you to Henry Ford Museum.

Oh and if you want to know some of the history behind the river Rouge plant, let me know. It was considered quite a work of beauty and innovation when it was first built and changed the political structure of Ford motor company for many years.

Another excellent industrial shot. I love how the positioning of the buildings and horizon are placed perfectly to highlight the smoke rising from the smoke stacks and the subtle variations in the clouds in the sky. Having such a saturated red really adds mood and emotion to the shot and creates a real metophorical feeling in the piece. The description you wrote for it is poetic and really fits the image as well. Very nice image.

I'd wondered if the shot had too much negative space up top, but I do like how the clouds of steam gradually lose their form as the move up. Your comment was precise and fabulous, thank you.

I don't think you need to worry about the negative space issue, the piece feels dynamic and balanced to me just as it is. This is one of those times where breaking the "rules" of photography is necessary to create a piece that not only works but communicates vividly to the viewer.

Not much has gone on there since my computer HD fried over a month ago. It has since been repaired but it will be a slow go getting it back up and running. Lots of things need to be rescanned and saved etc. There was also a small problem with a money crunch as well that kept film in my camera bag instead of going to the developer. I am happy to report though I have six new rolls and will be posting something soon. I should also be getting back to my commenting soon.
