As for the charcoal vs pencil, it really depends on who you ask. I just favor charcoal b/c it's easier to add depth, but it's a lot harder to control details and guard against mistakes, imo. The most popular choice for portraits is usually graphite/pencils from what I know, not charcoal. That's usually more for figure drawings.
You will have to experiment yourself and see though!

They're actually not J-rock at all. J-pop and from Johnny's Entertainment, too. ^ ^; Although I love their portrayal of rock in the pv! I can see why people like drawing Jrockers!
