Good strong nose wheel there!!
Well caught photo!
I have flown with Ryanair once and didn't crash, so I can't complain.
These "incidents" are, I think quite common.
I remember at Heathrow airport a Qantas 747 aborting a landing at the last minute(literally). The 747 seemed to hang in the air above terminal 2 with the engines roaring like thunder for what felt like ages.
In 2002 I went plane spotting to Frankfurt and I was amazed at the planes coming in almost sideways then flicking forwards at the last minute. Or they would change their landing approach at the last minute like cars lane-changing on a motorway!

Looks like a near engine explosion to me.

Looks like a bad crosswind kicked up just as he touched down. I've seen footage of a larger plane with the same problem.

It's my older picture but I though that I will share it again. The winds on that day were around 50kts. That explains a lot. Quite normal for Ireland.

I've seen footage of (I believe) a 757(?) get hit with a crosswind just as it was touching down. The pilot was able to recover and do a go-around.

Wiec samoloty ladowaly sobie dalej...

I like the bit where the airlane say its a controlled landing, Yeah right, look at the state the nose gear is in,
this landings only controlled by the fact the pilot managed to keep it over the runway when it stopped flying and the added bonus that the tyres held out when it hit the ground,

But I have to say that the Pilots did their job despite the pressure from Mr. O'Leary...but the fact when they are saying that this was a perfect landing...I would like to put all of them on board of this plane!

I saw a Gambia 707 land like this at EMI in the eighties, it was at night in a thunder storm, the aircraft had been chartered at the last minute to cover for a failed 737 on a return holiday flight from the med, they tryed to divert it to Manchester because of the storm but the guy hadn't enough fuel, so he had to put it down at EMI, and it was much like the landing in you photo, low level turbulance, windsheer and a big bang as it hit the runway, but the aircraft in you photo wasnt in the same situation by any means so why didnt they go around when it looked messy, thats a lot of lives on board an expensive aeroplane, frightening.

It looks like that land slopes down on the sides of the runway and if the craft was blown holy-bejesus off to the side this could in that 1/10000000 chance be a non-accident. It's pretty likely that the engine would have come off if it was a hit, but still this looks very convincing.

Nasty wind shear hit just in the middle of the runway! Now we know what happened. But why would the Pilots ignore the warning systems???

That does look like a strike. Either the engine got damaged bad, or the suspension on the left main gear. That must have been harsh for the passengers.

Those sitting on that side must have wondered if they'd end up cartwheeling. Definitely a brown trousers moment.

Yes, very much a near miss. And yes, this is contact, the engine is pretty much against the runway. Must have been amazing to witness, but scary to be a passenger. You said they were too low approaching, so my initial reaction would be to go and try again, so it's silly that they didn't tbh, because they could have ended up as a crumpled mess on the runway. Idiotic? Slightly, however, they did well to control the aircraft after this.

You see,Daddy?
Because of THIS i hate the Ryanair!!!
Stewardesses are rude, the pilots are awkward! I did fly with this shit airline 4 times, but it was a fuckin' big nightmare! I did read on Wikipedia, that Ryanair have many near miss, like this!
I hope you can understand now,Daddy, why i hate the Ryanair...

But I have to say that the Pilots did an outstanding job!It was a typical windshear. Now the question is why the windshear sensors at the airport didn't worked?
And how come the Airline denies everything? They are actually saying that this was "a safe and controlled landing"?

pulparindo In reply to disasterdesigner [2009-11-23 20:55:01 +0000 UTC]
This was not a windshear, just an unexpected gust of wind. And as far as I can tell from this picture there was no contact of engine and the runway.

Yeah... It does look like it had just enough clearance, and I have heard of flights going down a runway at that angle... so that's my guess.
