Anyone else think this would have made a better picture in volume 7 but if everyone in the photo were kids? Feel like it has a better vibe than the one we got. I can totally see these girls being Jaune's sisters. Plus you can clearly see their personalities clear as day.

Funny enough, out of all the siblings Jaune is the only one who can legally carry the Arc Family name for another generation (if not longer). He's the only one who can get married, have kids and have their lasts names be Arc. Personally, I think Jaune's parents just really loved each other enough to have eight children (seven girls and 1 boy), but I always like to think that it was perhaps a goal to at least get 1 boy to pass down the Arc name (you'd be surprised by how family's can be desired to keep their family name going. It was a big issue in China when they invoked the "1-child per family" rule.)

You're assuming things in Remnant work the same way they do in the real world. After all, Ruby's last name isn't Xiao Long, and Weiss' father wasn't born a Schnee.

Iβm just saying that by legal marriage, heβd be the only one to actually carry the name. With Ruby, her mother probably wasnβt married when she was born. Yang could be though. Weissβs Father may have been married in, but because of the Schneeβs reputation it was better that he just changed his name.

Nope, Raven is still named Raven Branwen, and while you could argue that she may haveΒ changed it back, I doubt it. Especially since on the gravestone of Ruby's mother it still saysΒ "Summer Rose".
Remnant works differently, and I think it has to do with looks and semblance more than the fathers last name.

Well there's also the possibility that both Raven and Summer were never actually married to Taiyang. Yang may share her father's last name, but I think that's because her father raised her rather than her mother (typically the child will bare the name of those they are raised by if I'm not mistaken.
