Description

The Frostreaver is a fabled weapon, whispered about in the chilling winds that howl through the dwarven tunnels of the Icevein mountains. It was forged in the forgotten age of myth, a time when the world was blanketed in ice and the dwarves delved deep to escape the eternal cold. The axe was created by a master smith, Surmann, who, legend says, communed with the ancient spirits of frost and stone to imbue the weapon with a fragment of their unyielding might.
Surmann's ambition was to craft a weapon that would allow his people to reclaim the surface world from the grip of the ice age. The axe's head was carved from the heart of a glacier that had never seen the sun, and its handle was wrought from metals mined from the deepest veins where the earth's warmth still lingered. Set within the axe were sapphires so blue they seemed to hold the essence of winter itself. The Frostreaver was a masterpiece of dwarven craftsmanship, and a terrible force on the battlefield.
Properties:
Chill of the Endless Winter: On a successful hit, the Frostreaver envelops its target in the biting cold of the oldest ice, dealing an additional 2d6 cold damage and reducing the target's speed by 10 feet until the start of the wielder's next turn.
Winter's Grasp: Once per day, the wielder can slam the axe into the ground, casting "Ice Storm" as a 4th-level spell centered on themselves without being harmed. This does not expend a spell slot.
Aura of the Frostborn: The wielder gains resistance to cold damage and can move across difficult terrain made of ice or snow without penalty.
Curse: Heart of Ice:
Eternal Cold: The Frostreaver is cursed with the heart of the glacier from which it was born. After using Winter's Grasp, the wielder's heart slows, suffering disadvantage on Initiative rolls as the cold seeps into their very being.
Isolation of the Icevein: The spirits within the Frostreaver resent the warmth of life. If the wielder carries the axe for more than seven days consecutively, they must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw at dawn each day or gain a level of exhaustion that cannot be removed while they continue to carry the axe.
