I'm curious as to why the flaps are deployed but the afterburners are lit? (not that this has any real bearing on the good quality of the image)

ok, I have fixed the flap

Thank you for the comment Ophacs. It could be the reason why the nose of the plane is lifted upwards for how long the flap will remain deployed or wether it was deployed before or after the after burner was pushed to full thrust, I have no idea.

F-22 The first plane to defy physics succesfully.....Hey Have you ever heard of the F/A-37?

thank you very much and yes I heard of the F/A-37. It was a fictional plane in movie called stealth. I have made a trial digital work of it in the early days. Will upload it one day.

Even though a Eurofighter Typhoon can totally mop the floor with this aircraft in a dogfight, by the time they see an F-22 on radar, its already over their heads.

martiansummer In reply to VDNKh [2012-09-02 00:19:33 +0000 UTC]

I very much doubt that the Typhoon would beat the F-22. Vectored thrust means all the world in modern dogfights, and the Typhoon doesn't have it.

VDNKh In reply to martiansummer [2012-09-02 00:38:43 +0000 UTC]

Actually it doesn't. The Euro Fighter is light and nimble. It has canards pared with a delta wing design which gives it great maneuverability at both sub and supersonic speeds and very little drag. But makes it stand out like a sore thumb on radar.

By contrast the F-22 while agile, is actually very heavy for its size. It has a lower thrust to weight ratio compared to a Typhoon.

martiansummer In reply to VDNKh [2012-09-02 22:36:28 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I would say that they might be equally agile. If it was a pure dogfight, I can almost assure you that vectored thrust would top canards any day. The canards would allow for a higher angle of attack and slower stall speeds, but vectored thrust allows for all of that on top of advanced maneuvers like Pugachev's Cobra.

I still don't know, though! It would be incredibly exciting to watch, although I can predict that the Typhoon and the Raptor will absolutely never be on opposing sides in a war.

VDNKh In reply to martiansummer [2012-09-03 00:32:11 +0000 UTC]

You don't need thrust vectoring to achieve a Pugachev's Cobra. They don't have thrust vectoring on a Typhoon because with or without it, it can still perform out side the range of human tolerance. And
the Typhoon was built specifically for dog fighting, the same way the Raptor was designed to sneak up undetected and always blow the first fatal punch.

Like I said earlier, A Typhoon would have to already be in the air and searching for an F-22 to correctly intercept it. Otherwise by the time radar picks up the Raptor, it's far too late.

An F-22 is to a PAK-FA the same way a Eurofighter is to an Su-37.
