staring at my greatest fear
A figure draped in a shroud
lying in bed
I sit down next to it
not realizing that it's dead
When I brush the figure's hand
terror fills my being
I run away
'cause I can't deal with what I'm seeing
I run into a room
filled with the departed
They are dancing to an unliving beat
God, please tell me what has started
"Here, take this robe"
now I'm in the land of the living
A friend grasps my shoulders
their hands are warmth-giving
Costumed conversation
lively and hearty
My mind still lingers, though
on the funeral party
