In a concise (and hopefully useful) form (eg. rather than me blabbing at you about something I'm interested in and you're not), so just to shed some light on the picture.....

You probably noticed I have a 'main character.' Well, this is her brother. Parents killed tragically. Later, wife dies tragically. Position of great power, but still lonely. Etc etc.

We're a rather angsty family to be honest.....

Overbearing angst does seem to be a staple of many anime lead characters so I can get with that.

I had picked up the name Byakuya in your various commentaries and posts on the subject but had rather got the impression he was a senior officer* or something rather than a brother.

*insofar as I can make out Rukia is some sort of undead, katana wielding, butterfly loving, angst ridden police officer. I may be wildly off base?

Well, I've had a very nice day today and you've made me finish it with a smile!

Accurate on most counts, I do believe, although the fondness for butterflies may be mostly mine.

"Police officer" is somewhat off the mark. They are death gods - the japanese equivalent of grim reapers, but, sort of yes as they're organised rather like an army (captains, lieutenants, officers, cannon-fodder etc)and you are right, Byakuya is a captain, but not actually her captain and she probably comes in the 'cannon fodder' category.

So yeah - undead: check; katana: check; angst: check. And you can have a half point for the butterflies.
