When the other stag suddenly swished his tail and the blades hidden in it ripped through the bark of the tree like it would rip through skin, Starling gave a shocked gasp, taking a step back, while staring at the other's hidden weapons through big eyes.
It wasn't so much he was scared of them, it was more that he was shocked and sorry to see a stag, not much older than him, but already hurt enough, to feel the need to keep such deadly weapons with him. Magno probably was right, the world was a hard and dangerous place, but still Starling felt sorry for Magno, of having had to learn this lesson so early, he felt the other was also still too young to having been put into the kind of situation that would force him to feel necessary to protect himself with these deadly shards.
He felt sorry for Magno. Sorry he had had to suffer so much, sorry he obviously never had had a real friend to trust and talk to.

"I'm so sorry for what happened to you." the younger stag finally said, "I'm going to hug you now, please don't beat me up." and with that he stepped forward and craned his neck around Magno's, pulling the other buck into a tight embrace.
"I know I will probably never understand what you've been through and I honestly also hope I never will. You are probably right, I should be more careful, but if you ever need a friend, like, just to talk to, I'll gladly be that friend." the chestnut spoke, taking a step back again and smiling at Magno with a little nod and his eyes speaking about his words having meant the truth. Everybody needed a friend, after all.
