At MegaCon 2010 I cosplayed Mega Man X. It was quite a hit, though I only saw one other Mega Man related character there (Proto Man).The Helmet was a Kickboxing helmet, the chest was football pads, the forearms were drink pitchers, the belt is just cardboard, the undies are... undies, and the feet are traffic cones. Throw in some paint, cardboard, tape, and velcro, and you've got yourself a Mega Man X costume!

lol, but in all seriousness the construction of your costume is marvelous. You really did a fantastic job!
I was sort of cosplaying a Mega Man character at that Megacon too. I was a female version of Proto Man. (In fact, that cosplay part of my current devID . ...But unfortunately only three people were able to recognize me at the con. 
Actually, I was supposed to be Splash Woman for Megacon, but part of my armor got crushed, and I wasn't able to fix it in time for the con. So I scrambled to put together that female Proto Man cosplay in the name of fighting for everlasting peace! 
Hehe luckily I was able to get a picture with that Proto Man cosplayer you mentioned! He told me that lots of people were saying that he was Captain Falcon. Man, that's a travesty! :/
Say... Have you heard of Nerdapalooza ? It's a music festival, but for nerds, lol. Mega Ran/Random will be there, The Protomen said they'd be there again this year, and hopefully The Megas will be returning as well. *crosses fingers*

I think I know what you could do to improve your recognizably! Go ahead and buy yourself a motorcycle helmet with smoke tinted lenses and spray paint that red and white. As for the dress? I'd recommend wearing it with gray leggings or just gray pants. Some red boots or boot covers would work. I think people would spot you from miles away if you added and upgrade your already neat crossplay. P:

Oh, Zero. What ARE you fighting for? I want to cosplay as Zero so badly, but that costume seems like a whooole different monster.

Haha, The Mega Man Network actually had a "What am I fighting for" contest that ended a month ago. And yeah, I can imagine Zero would be much more difficult to make. Just getting his helmet alone to look correct would probably be a major pain.
