Description The seven deadly sins are capital vices that are fundamentally basic to other vices and human nature itself. Many of these correlate with one another due to their nature as a sin, such as lust being at the heart of envy, gluttony and greed since it incorporates desire, and pride being the root of all sin since each sin focuses more on the self in some way. They are each in a way like the seven colours that make up a rainbow, or in this case the colour spectrum that makes up light. The seven colours make up the rainbow and the seven deadly sins make up human nature and vices.

Each capital vice is deemed 'deadly' because they each have the potential to devastate a person; to destroy the life of grace and charity a person has and even become their own downfall. The seven deadly sins have the capacity to degrade a person; ruin their relationships, affect their perception or interpretation of events and essentially their function in everyday life.

These are quotes from songs which I think suit the seven deadly sins. For those of you who don't know the seven deadly sins they are sloth, greed, gluttony, wrath, lust, envy and pride. The symbols as well as their colours correspond to each sin, try to guess which is which from what you see~

Envy - Buckcherry

"I see you moving towards me
I feel it deep inside.
My mind I can't control it
I wish I had your life"

"Walk the streets under a full moon sky
They say all the freaks come out at night.
Seems like everyone has so much more
That’s why I want you to make me whole."

"All this is envy inside of me, I can’t control.
I want you to know what it’s like and feel it, too."

The importance of being idle - Oasis

"My best friend called me the other night
He said 'Man, are you crazy?'
My girlfriend told me to get a life
She said 'boy, you lazy'"

"I don't mind
As long as there's a bed beneath the stars that shine
I'll be fine, If you give me a minute
A mans got a limit
I can't get a life if my hearts' not in it"

Wrath - Buckcherry

"All I wanna do is make a mess of you
I can’t control myself, this is living hell.
I’m doing what is right and now it's time to fight
War defines a man, war defines a man, war defines a man"

"I got this need, can’t be broken
And I’m taking you on this ride.
I got this need, can’t be broken
And I keep all my wrath inside."

Pride - Buckcherry

"I packed up all my secrets to embark on my demise
I left all my belongings to my loved ones, far behind
I feel like I have seen enough, my memories and crimes
Honesty has called my bluff and victory is mine.
I want this bad behavior to be buried in a ditch
Where strangers can just pull aside and suck it with their piss
I've wasted my good fortune, my body and my mind
I'm going down nothing else but bullets and my pride
And I know all this has changed me"

In lust - Poisonblack

"When fear of life keeps crawling in she wipes it all away
Day turns to night repeats the sin
I'm in lust so let love reign"

"It comes again, 'cause you're fuel to this desire
It comes again, 'cause you make the flames burn higher
I'm so high on you"

The power of gold - Dan Fogelberg

"The letters and calls got you climbing the walls
And everyone wants a favor
They beg to remind you of times left behind you
You know the past is a loser"

"Balance the cost of the soul you lost
with the dreams you lightly sold
Then tell me that you're free of the power of gold.
The women are lovely, the wine is superb
but there's something about the song that disturbs you."

Gluttony - Buckcherry

"I get it started and then I'm broken hearted
'Cause I can't get a hold of the beast
It's like I'm blind, I'm running out of time
And everything I crave is out of reach"

"I want it, I want it, I want it, I want it
I need it, I need it, I need it, I need it
I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it
A glutton enemy has started"

Purple is Pride...
Pink is Lust...
Yellow is Greed
Blue is Sloth...

Orange is Wrath...
Envy is always depicted as green...
Which makes red, Gluttony?

Almost, it's actually the other way around with lust and gluttony you're not wrong in a way though, I mean with the sins the colour symbolism can vary an' different ones can be used for different sins depending on why the reason is e.g for Gluttony the colour pink reminds me of a pig and red is known to symbolise passion and desire (as well as wrath)

I assumed pink since the design did kinda look like a uterus.

Little bit of a non-serious note here: you probably could have made the canvas a tad smaller so that it doesn't take away the impact of the centre image XD

anyway, the seven deadly sins are definitly an intriguing topic. As you pointed out they are at the very core of our being, and drive us to act in certain ways. In their own way, they were how we survived in primitive times. Greed in particular shows itself a lot through out history along with wrath and gluttony. As you also pointed out, they can be extremely devastating, especially when it goes unnoticed that their controlling a person. But only if it goes by unnoticed or unchanged. They may be in our nature, but there are ways to keep them to a minimal.

its interesting that you've put in qoutes that relate to each sin, in a way it makes them a lot more relatable, paints an image on emotion almost, and makes them easier to notice in ourselves. (Im sorry if that doesn't really make sense ^^' )

interesting parels between the sins and a rainbow too, perhaps rainbows aren't as innocent as people assume. and perhaps rather than a pot of gold at the end, it's the devil himself? //ok I'm done kidding around im sorry |'D

Fixed it a bit xD

Exactly, these sins are the core of our own very being. And yes they can be controlled, but only to an extent. It also varies with each person too in terms of how much each sin affects the person.

Glad you think so, I also added them in cuz they each pertain to me in some ways xp (Ish fine, no need ^^ I understand)

Pffft yes, it's the devil come out to say "BOO!"// no need to be sorry, ok? xD you can say as you wish ^^

Oh? XD

indeed, and of course. If it affects someone on a grand scale, then it is much harder to control it than someone who barely noticed their own sins.

oh? o3o (ok ok so long as you understood ^^ )

hes come out to turn sinners into demons //ok ok but I wanna keep jokes minimal on this XD I mean after our convo and all I kinda don't want to joke too much cause it takes away the meaning I guess in a way

yeah I edited the picture xD

Yes. The thing about these sins is everyone has experienced them at points in their lives, but then there are some that stay with 'em an' do not go away

yeah o3o they each bare a truth 'bout me (Yeah ^^)

Pffft an' he shall rule the world, by turnin' it into his own personal hell~// Pfft it's fine Gwen ^^ we can be both serious an' jokey on the same comment, just like we are now xD

Oh now I see XD oh wow that made a really big difference |'D well I think it looks better, but what about you? It is your image after all, and if you think the bigger canvas adds to the meaning then keep it as a bigger canvas ^^

that  is very true

oh I see o3o Rather interesting too, adds a personal touch to something everyone shares ^^

hahaha yes eue //ok ok xD

Yeah I think it fits ^^ an' thanks for the tip xD

Yeah, but even if we are all sinners at heart; best we can do is cope an' learn from that which are obstacles for us

Yeah it does so I chose the lyrics cuz they resemble the sins really well, cuz they each have a personal meanin' to me an' also cuz they are each cryptic in their own ways~ =u=

hahahah yep eue that would be funny though, a person spends their life lookin' for the pot o'gold an' it turns out the devil is in it instead |'D

Okie ^^ and your welcome XD

indeed, and if we aren't too deep in our sins, we can learn to control them to a point that they are manageable ^^

oh of course you'd add an element of cryptic messages into the mix |'D oh this is gonna be fun to piece together eue

ofttt well after the connection you made between the two, I'm betting that's all it will be, the devil himself |'D

Yeah ^^ an' hmm xD

Exactly ^^ those who master their sins instead o'lettin' them master themselves, come out better people

I like cryptic, dark, figurative messages like that so why not?~ eue an' nice, well do enjoy makin' yer interpretations outta each set o'lyrics =u= personally I like envy's lyrics not only cuz o'it's more personal significance to me, but cuz how cryptic the lyrics in the song are in relation to envy an' I think they are most cryptic~ eue

Pffft or...you'll find me in the pot

The sins intrigue me in a lotta different ways, that's why i'm obsessive about 'em xD I mean the subject itself is versatile in discussion, an' interestin' to talk about ^^

Pffft good then =w= an' o'course~ what about you? =w= any faves?

d'aww an' i'd love ta just spring out, give ye a glomp like "Congrats Gwen, you finally found the pot at the end o'the rainbow " (which would have multiple meanings )

I really like the concept of the 7 Deadly Sins. If they are involved in the plot in some way, I will tend to like the thing more, for example the 7 Deadly Sins Vocaloid song series. If you haven't seen them, you really should.
I personally am way too prideful for my own good. It leads me to have a pretty big ego sometimes and I tend to put some others bellow me. I love that rush of acknowledgement  I get when people complement my work. But thats the thing, the 7 Deadly Sins are qualities that everyone has and are qualities we needed to evolve. For example without greed we would find the need to hoard and posses things.
Your art is symple and that's all it needs to be. You didn't really focus much on detail for it but had the heart for it in the description. Good job~!

Thanks! an' me too, I might check the songs out.

Yes in a way they help us evolve by making us learn from our mistakes and sometimes , but mostly they detriment the state an' quality of things more than help. Many examples o'these can be found in Shakespeare's plays; Othello's jealousy, Macbeth's desire an' ambition. An' then there are the plays by Arthur Miller with protagonists who have so much pride they'd rather die than submit to the problem they have. These sins pose a threat like that an' are more adverse than helpful.

That was the intent, for it to be a simple drawing an' background to a broad concept with a summary o'the sins an' what I think o'them. I don't think ideas or concepts like these need any visual complexity to 'em. Besides if I did add more complexity, that would make the picture more of  a distraction and draw attention from the description. So the picture is like a front cover to a dark an' serious subject, an intro o'sorts.

I agree although I don't really understand your Shakespeare refrances. I have only done A Midsummer Night Dream and am doing Romeo and Juliet later this year.

It's fine, they are interestin' plays to read though. Shakespeare likes to emphasise tragedy as well as character traits that aid the downfall of a person. Arthur Miller likes to focus on the life of an everyday man through plays such as a view from a bridge and Death of a Salesman. Though it's not as dull as one might think.

What do you think of both the plays you've done?

Tobykitten17 In reply to DoubleDoppelganger [2016-03-09 03:30:56 +0000 UTC]

Well I found A Midsummer Night Dream to be rather enjoyable. I haven't actually done Romeo and Juliet yet but will at the end of the year. I really want to do Merchant of Venous though however I don't believe my school teaches that play.
