When Desmond equipped the Hidden Blade to save his father from Abstergo, he wore it on his right forearm, as opposed to the conventional left forearm. However, as Desmond's Hidden Blade did not pivot like RatonhnhakΓ©:ton's, it can be presumed that the switch was made to allow Desmond to carry a knife in his left hand.
