Description

Again, some freaking out with new beginners. They can’t understand why their layer is hidden and not editable.

Take a breath, slow down.

Questions:

Why can’t I use and edit my duplicated layer in my animation?

Where the hell is my layer? Why can’t I edit it?!

Answer:

You haven’t specified it.

Right click your timeline, you will see your layer or duplicated layer there. Click it to unhide it from the timeline. Once it’s been specified you can continue animating and editing your layers.

You can also use your vector layers as well, just make sure you unhide it in the animation Timeline by specifying it. This is also true for using grouping folders within the animation folder for line art and colouring. You need to define or specify the folder before it is useable.

I think I can, I just need a simple screenshot of the issue or even a short video of what's going wrong. It's probably just a simple mistake or a potential bug

It's ok, and I understand. It can be very frustrating when you're learning all kinds of things about clip. I'd be happy to help next time if something else happens again

Is this the way to make it so you can sketch in one layer, then make a new layer (not a new cell) to sketch other details like hair without affecting the body sketch?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraconianRain In reply to angelDX [2017-09-15 04:34:47 +0000 UTC]

No. Do this

Right click>> Group selected layer into folder. It will auto rename. This will add a grouping folder for the cell. Add sketch, ink, colour layers in the group that should have the same name as the frame in the cel in the timeline. If you loose your grouped frame, using this method will help you find it and place it correctly in the timeline.

Please refer to this post   Please take note that in this video instead of grouping an already made layer I simply deleted it and added a fresh folder. Both work. But once you add one folder, the next new cel/frame you create will create a new frame already in a folder with the same number of layers as the previous frame out of convenience. You'll understand what I mean when you try it out.

DraconianRain In reply to MrAnonymousMann [2017-07-20 19:16:46 +0000 UTC]

I can see what you did. You can't undo a timeline but you can delete a timeline without effecting your layers. What you were actually doing was undoing your work on your layers and having zero effect on the timeline. The timeline merely converts a project to an animation and sets up a place to organise cels. It has no actual control over layers. Were you trying to animate this? If so I can show you how.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrAnonymousMann In reply to DraconianRain [2017-07-20 19:22:00 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I do that in Photoshop, I'll draw my work and then animate parts of it. This was my first time doing so in Clip studio Paint but now my work is all gone. Do you know how I can recover the layers, I made the stupid mistake of not saving...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraconianRain In reply to MrAnonymousMann [2017-07-20 19:28:53 +0000 UTC]

If you didn't save at all from the start then there is no recovery. If you saved at the start then there might be a backup save file.

Aww I didn't have autosave on, I guess its lost then *sign*, Thank you though , I appreciate your effect. I'll contact the makers of the Application about this. Im sure this is a bug of some kind.

DraconianRain In reply to MrAnonymousMann [2017-07-20 20:25:37 +0000 UTC]

It's not a bug. The timeline functions differently to every other application. I watched your video. You undid your work on your layers, not the timeline and without saving or having autosave on, or saving in increments there is no way to recover what you did the same as photoshop. The timeline is similar to photoshop in that its a separate entity to the layers system.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrAnonymousMann In reply to DraconianRain [2017-07-20 21:07:46 +0000 UTC]

I don't know why I didn't think to record my actual history of my doc but I didn't undo my work, I only undid the make "new timeline". I Contacted someone on the CSP website and they have conformed it to be a bug. They said that if I undo a timeline its should not delete layers. They told me to update to 1.6.6 to fix it from happening again.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraconianRain In reply to MrAnonymousMann [2017-07-20 21:18:08 +0000 UTC]

Glad it has been fixed . Though now you have updated please make sure to go into Preferences and enable autosave. I recommend setting it to save every 5 minutes so you won't lose major amounts of work and specify your own backup file location.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MrAnonymousMann In reply to DraconianRain [2017-07-20 21:23:28 +0000 UTC]

lol, I'll defiantly do that this time! Ive been told so many time to save as I work (and I usually do) and I choose today of all days to run into a layer deleting bug Y u Y Oh well, I guess its just more practice to redraw it again.

~Cheers

DraconianRain In reply to MrAnonymousMann [2017-07-20 21:43:35 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah me too. Fortunately Clip does have a decent backup but it only works properly if you save. The easiest way is the second you start a canvas, save it. Even if it's called Untitled 1 and then let autosave do the rest. If you're luck backup will catch it if the program crashes but not if you voluntarily delete or close your own work.

Good luck

Hi ! I'm actually having another animation linked probelm with the program and I wondered if you could help : the timeline at the bottom doesn't appear at all when I open a new animation folder and I don't know what to do

DraconianRain In reply to PixieBrush [2017-05-24 09:49:01 +0000 UTC]

Clip saves workspace layouts so if you have accidentally closed it or moved it, you can either reset to default layout or re-open it from the Windows menu. Up top next to help is a menu called Window. Open this and carefully read until you find "Timeline" If it is unticked then it is hidden and you just need to click it and it should appear in it's usual spot or the centre of the screen. If it is ticked and you can't see it, then there's a chance it's been moved and is out of view. In which case you can reset your workspace layout while you are trying to animate. Go to Window then Workspace then Reset to default. And it will reset your clip layout entirely. However the first option should work since it's most likely that it's been closed. If that doesn't work please send me a screencap because there's a third reason it might not be appearing and it's hard to explain. If I could see your layout I could instruct you further on where it might be hiding.

Hey, I also have a question lmao... so I currently have one animation folder layer on my timeline consisting of three frames. All of them are specified and play bck properly. The 3 frames are just lineart frames. I am making a background also consisting of 3 frames , and I did so in another animation folder. Even after I specified the new cell layer on the first frame, it still isn't editable. Thoughts?

DraconianRain In reply to MissLightningBoltLuv [2016-08-18 21:34:02 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome and ah yeah that seems to not be added yet. I have heard that Clip is working on it. I personally do this with Photoshop but you could do it with GIMP. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. I'm not sure why Clip doesn't allow transparency in it's GIF's yet but it's likely there was a bug they haven't worked out. My only recommendation is to use PS or GIMP and if all else fails you could try Black Magic Fusion 8, but it's really difficult to use.

Yeah me too. I was almost pulling my hair out. I pressed, changed, unticked, added, deleted everything I could think of. It's just a missing feature. I hope they add it too but it is a lot harder to convert a programs language to English than people realise. I'm sure they'll add it eventually.

i really miss how we could use the paint tool to just simply "fill" in the line art on a new layer from the previous one. we cant do that in animation! not with the onion skin. why do they make it so complicated

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraconianRain In reply to anabeldamaso [2016-03-21 00:45:58 +0000 UTC]

I'm not sure I understand what you mean because I was able to do this in animation mode. Tell me what you're doing and I might be able to help.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

anabeldamaso In reply to DraconianRain [2016-03-21 01:01:04 +0000 UTC]

ok well in normal drawing mode, if you make a layer and draw something on it, and then  proceed to make another blank layer on top of it , you can use the "refer to other layer paint bucket" as a sort of cheat to kind of paint in what you want to fill into the blank layer by simply clicking over what you drew on the now opaque layer below.. does that make sense? im terrible at explaining things

in animation mode i simply cant do that. i make a new animated cell and if i use onion skin i cant use the "refer to other layer paint bucket" on the new layer to trace over from my last cell because a cell, is technically not a layer. no mater how much i try. and i cant simply duplicate my cell layer! its so frustrating!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DraconianRain In reply to anabeldamaso [2016-03-21 01:26:25 +0000 UTC]

Yes you can also enable a feature called "multiple layer referring". I have a video I'm about to post that should answer this issue for you.

What you are missing is grouping folders in the animation folder because each frame outside a grouping folder is a single separate frame entity of it's own meaning it can't be referred to as a fillable option for the bucket tool.

Please watch this post I made to see what I mean and read the description. I think you'll find it fixes the issue. If you can't find those paint bucket options, click the wrench icon in the tools properties window and you'll find it amongst those options.

youtu.be/UbmiFbE1XCo

Really sorry to hear it's been giving you a tough time. Hopefully this helps
