Description Woooo... this took SO LONG. But I finally finished it.

inspired by the movie The Secret of Kells, this was originally going to be a ghostly cat thing based on the scene with Pangur-Ban... but I added a swirl to the ear and then it turned into this. A psedo-celtic illumination-ish cat thing... idk.

Used prismacolor markers, the outlining swirls are done in metallic gold, but the scanner didnt really pic up enough difference in color between the body and the gold, so I darkened the rims on photoshop

...now that I think about it... this may be one of the most detailed traditional pieces I've ever done

This would make a great embroidery design. Mirror it, and it could be two sides on a keyhole neckline celtic tunic...

Beautiful! Well worth the time (well, easy for me to say, I didn't do the work   )

I like it: all the sinuousness of a cat, a bit ghostly, a bit intimidating, touches of irish ornaments but very much your own design... very beautiful. It really catches the spirit of cats!

Secret of Kells was a phenomenal movie! Pangur-Ban was actually the first thing that came to mind when I saw this X)
This is beautiful! I love the colors and those red dots actually seem like they're moving!

Aw, I like! Celtic art is cool. Good colour choice, I like that it created the optical illusion of "moving" dots. Celtic circles and lines seem like they were meant to be in a sort of perpetual motion. And cats are awesome! Meow.

1) i love this
2) how do you scan it without having a white background in between the swirls or behind it at all? WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO THIS AWESOMENESS?!?!

DraconicNosferatu In reply to LAParker13 [2010-11-19 00:34:14 +0000 UTC]

Thanks~~

PHOTOSHOP. I can remove the background usually with the combined efforts of the magicwand selection tool and the magiceraser tool.

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was that movie, actually. So gorgeous.

I love the style of this. The colors, the combinations of curves and angle... very nice.
I know it takes a while, but it would be super cool to see more work like this from you. ^^

Thank you very much I'm happy you like it so.

Actually, I've started a piece that sort of goes along the same trend as this... but not exactly as its taking Norse mythology and putting the stylized swirls in it. But I think thats just about where the similarity ends... idk, the drawing is currently still in its infancy.
