Description
Digimon Tamers: Synechízo (デジモンテイマーズシネヒギゾ, Dejimon Teimāzu Shinehigizo. Συνεχίζω, Greek for "to continue") is a sequel to the anime series, Digimon Tamers. It picks up one year after the defeat of the D-Reaper, a monstrous entity that threatened to destroy both the Digital World and the real world. While peace has returned, a new anomaly emerges. Strange distortions are appearing all over the world, creating pocket dimensions where Digimon materialize. These distortions are a consequence of the damage done by the D-Reaper to the dimensional barrier separating the real and digital worlds. As the Digital World recovers, these new, smaller dimensions are inadvertently bleeding into ours, and the Digimon residing within them pose a potential threat if they escape.
The story centers on the original Tamers – Takato Matsuki, Henry Wong, and Rika Nonaka – are thrust back into action, as their Digimon partners, Guilmon, Terriermon, and Renamon, have mysteriously returned through one such rift. It falls upon the Tamers and their Digimon to not only confront the Digimon within these pocket dimensions but also to seal the distortions themselves, preventing further incursions. These anomalies are invisible to the naked eye, only detectable by those wielding a D-ARK or specialized equipment developed by certain organizations like hypnos.
A powerful Digimon from a distant corner of the multiverse, drawn by the D-Reaper incident, lurks in the shadows, manipulating these dimensional distortions. This enigmatic being observes, studying the human-Digimon bond and the potential for enhanced power it fosters. This Digimon is not alone. In the human world, a shadowy figure seeks to usher in a new era for humanity, believing the key lies in a forced evolution. This individual employ "artificial Digimon" that feed on the emotions of both humans and Digimon alike, further complicating the Tamers' mission.
The warped nature of these pocket dimensions disrupts the wavelengths of both Digimon and Tamers in their Matrix/Biomerged Mega evolutions. This instability creates a physical strain, draining the Tamers' energy and hindering the effectiveness of this powerful form. It becomes clear that a new approach is necessary. This situation brings forth the need of a new evolution method to Ultimate/Mega that transcends that of a physical “Biomerging”. A new evolution that involves a “Mind and Soul symbiosis” between tamer and Digimon called “True Matrix Evolution”.
Author’s notes: This sequel takes in its own continuity/timeline outside Chiaki J. Konaka’s canon, with the “Battle of the Adventurers” film being part of it, and a rewritten version of the plot from the “Digimon Runaway Express” film being part of Synechízo at some point.
- Why was this done? To do not alter anything from Konaka’s work and respect, and to have more freedom in the story I want to tell. Also, I have planned this story since 2014, even before any thing related to “Digimon Tamers 2018” was announced. The later event leading to this story being set in an alternate timeline.
- Are elements from 2018 and 2021 going to be here or at least mentioned? Most likely, they’re neat ideas to just be left behind.
- There were other suffixes for this sequel’s name before “Synechízo”? Yes, those were “Digimon Tamers: Rising”, “Digimon Tamers: Next” and “Digimon Tamers: The Next Evolution”, but I ultimately decide to go with “Digimon Tamers: Synechízo” since not only sounded nice, but also makes reference to the story not only in the fact that is a sequel, but also the theme of the story; Do not let the burdens of the past prevent to continue living.
- Are Ryo Akiyama and Alice McCoy going to be further explored in this story? Yes
- What is this “True Matrix Evolution” consisting of? I’ll explain that in future posts, this one has plenty of information already 😅.
- Are Guilmon, Terriermon, and Renamon going to get new Megas? If so, are Dukemon/Gallantmon, SaintGalgomon/MegaGargomon, and Sakuyamon are just gonna be dropped? Yes, they will get new Ultimate/Mega forms through “True Matrix Evolution”, but the original “biomerge” Megas will continue to be used later.
- Will there be a crossover the Adventure universe, you know because of Ryo? Possibly, but I’m still figuring out how that would be like.
- Will Milleniummon make an appearance? Yes, but not as the antagonist as probably you’ll think, more like the cause of everything happening in Digimon Tamers: Synechízo.
- What about Juri/Jeri Katou? Will she get more development? Yes, she will be a quite important character and get more development.
- Will Leomon return? Unfortunately, no, bringing him back will make her entire character arc in Digimon Tamers meaningless. But she will still get a new Digimon partner, stay tuned for future post to know which one is it. (Spoiler: It won’t be Calumon, though he is still attached to Juri, and I have something else for the little guy.)
