This is the finished Kimono Beauty I painted for my Dad's birthday present. I found this incredible stock image by ~aprilsheepstock which you can see here: [link] Thanks so much for the inspiration April
It is definitely the most intricate and detailed painting I've ever done and I am really enjoying working in oils again. I pushed myself a lot with this as there were several aspects of the design I found challenging, especially the fan as I was never very patient when it came to technical drawing. All in all I'm really pleased with how it turned out and my Dad loves it which is the most important thing.

I love the flow of colour and how she looks like one whole piece by herself and the background like the second piece of the painting.

Thank you, I found the background quite challenging actually, even though it's so simple. The original reference photo had a black background but I didn't want anything that harsh, so gambled with this blue / purple gradient instead. Pleased with how it turned out though.

That's a very impressive amount of detail. It looks from the texture to be a very small canvas.

It's 20cm wide by 50cm tall so yeah, pretty small surface area but good fun to work on. I like vertical panoramic canvases, there's something really satisfying about them
