Description Another of my favourite mythological monsters. I originally thought about drawing the heads looking closer to their natural counterparts, but then I decided that since this is a monster I'd play with their appearances a little, 'specially the lion head.

And this is my last piccy before I move house so I'll be away for a while.

Thank you! I looked at a couple of references for the snake head since I'm pretty sure I would have botched the scales otherwise

CRAZY GOOD DRAWING

quick question though... What exactly IS a chimera? My little sisters says "They can be any kind of animal fused together" But Ive only known them to be a bull/snake/eagle or sometimes with a goat or lion. So if by any chance you could clarify either one it would be a BIG help.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

drakhenliche In reply to LilFlac3 [2008-05-18 10:11:39 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! The original chimera was a creature from Greek mythology - a fusion of lion, goat and snake. That's where the word came from but far as I understand it can be used to apply to any fusion of different creatures. It gets used in cell biology too but that gets a bit technical XD Hope that helps ^^

guess we were both right lol. Thanks helped out ALOT mos def. You have some really nice fantasy stuff going on. Mind if I ask what inspires you? I've been wanting to do FA as well but dont even know where to begin

drakhenliche In reply to LilFlac3 [2008-05-22 09:51:03 +0000 UTC]

No problem

Thanks! Most of it just comes straight out of my head these days but what got me into fantasy stuff was reading myths and legends when I was younger - with particular emphasis on any stories involving dragons or monsters and I'd try and draw the creatures from those.

I like the fact that you toy'd with the animals images, especialy the goat-They way you gave it teeth made it truely, the fearsome Chimera beast!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

drakhenliche In reply to neji333 [2007-03-22 12:35:07 +0000 UTC]

Cheers! imo the chimera's meant to be a horrifying monster and an aberration of nature, so just doing like a normal goat wouldn't have been scary enough

neji333 In reply to drakhenliche [2007-03-22 21:59:48 +0000 UTC]

Yes, thats so true, but, you made it MORE scary that it would usually be, thats the beauty of it!

Cheers! I enjoyed rendering this one. The glow was quite nice to do - it just needed me to rub out the pencils in that area with a putty rubber to give the illusion of light

can you tell me how did you draw the grey sky?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

drakhenliche In reply to AlexandreCabral [2006-12-01 12:14:46 +0000 UTC]

I lightly shaded large areas with a pencil then blended it all using tortillions (paper blending stick things) and tissues. For the highlights I then erased bits using a putty rubber. Hope that answers your question

AlexandreCabral In reply to drakhenliche [2006-12-01 17:57:47 +0000 UTC]
