Description Finally got this off the ground. I'm thinking I will go back and do some touch ups after about a week or so. I know I have to correct some of the lighting but I need to walk away for it for a while to see just what I need to fix.

Anyways. This was made in Adobe PS7 & Jasc 8. The photo of the Valkyrie is my sister Nicky. It is from my stock account image used was - [link]
Background was photos I took on a hiking trip in the Kananaskis mountains with my man, Pat.
The fire is from my sisters stock account with layers of paint and dodge & burn. The troops in the background was a layer of paint for the silhouette laid over the fire.

Hope you enjoy the image.

I saw the original photo in your stock account. It's unbelievable how you upgrade it! It was a great base for such a powerful work.

Thank you . My sister is a great sport and I love it when we can get together to do photos. She always knows what the look I'm after. It makes a big difference.

Great picture. I can relate to your method: same here. Take a suit of armour and start cutting it up, then putting it all back together differently. Works for me, and boy does it work for you

Thank you What I also do to smooth the edges and to make it look blended/painted is I use the smudge tool with everything. I set it to the hardness of 25-35 depending on the image. then I paint again on top then the final layer I use dodge and burn. My favorite tools in that list. lol

Very very cool... my only comment would be to point out the crispness of the bulk of the piece, while there are a few areas that look very airbrushed comparitively (forgive me if this has been discussed... I didn't read the other comments)... beyond that, I love it!

Hey thanks Doc. No the others had mentioned the lighting. I'm glad you spotted the other parts in the image. As I said to the others I really need peoples input if they can see something I can't, hehe

I have a few things I need to do now

*drools*

Wow.

I ended up staring this for quite a while, so very nice job. The paintinglike feel of it is wonderful, and the pose and the expression on her face combined with the armor & clothes you created gives it a nice touch. I wouldnΒ΄t want to run into her on the warfield, heh.

And yep, like mors said, the only thing that caught my eye too was the lighting on the other leg, itΒ΄s in contrast to the dark side of the breastplate. I also thought of suggesting on making some more detail on the legarmour, but that would take the focus away from the face/shoulders area, and thatΒ΄s the best part of the picture in my opinion.

So enough rambling, very good job.

lol. Thank's. I was saying to DJ that I was glad that was pointed out to me because I can easly miss whats right in front of me if I have been working for hours on it. I'll be correcting the lighting on that leg now that I can see it

Wow, that's your sister......? *gets back to thinking of it as a painting* Okay, anyway, I love the texture and the light reflection... That is supremely well done. Although, her breastplate is really dark on one half, but then the leg on the same side seems to be catching a lot of light also... Intentional?

Lastly, the sky is amazing... Great use of colors and it almost seems like I can see movement... Of course, that may just be a bad flashback... *wink*

Aaaahhhha!!!! That's what's I was looking for. I get so wrapped up in my image that I cant see these little things that some one else would notice. No it was not intentional. It was my lack of attention to detail. lol I'm so glad you spotted that. I will go back to have more contrast on the leg. I knew I needed the fire to cast a major contrast but was not sure where to put it, hehe well back to the wacom

And I agree with you about my sister. She's hot. lol

Thank you. Lots and lots of layers. I have photos from my trip to our museum here in Calgary of armor. I also looked for stock photos on the net as well. I dismantled them and then remade them into something I wanted. I then painted a separate layer for each piece to get the lighting I wanted, and to make the chunks look like they belonged together.

wycked In reply to DreamingLizard [2005-01-24 13:04:19 +0000 UTC]

you did a great job. I tend to use a lot of layers too, it's so much easier when I make a mistake

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

DreamingLizard In reply to wycked [2005-01-24 23:22:52 +0000 UTC]

That's the truth about the layers. My sister Nicky would always work by flattening her layers. I could never understand that because she would loose out on the image if it went wrong. lol. She is starting to use more layers now. You can see a huge difference in her work. She has much more control.

I like to save in stages with different names such as -fighter 1-fighter 1a-etc just incase I really screw up. lol which I've done so many times.
