The imagination aspect played very strong at the beginning. With no Shining Armor around (he was in training to become a guard at this time! Or something.) and Cadence not yet introduced, imagination would take over as a primary means to the entertainment of Twilight.That and we need imagination for Smarty to be around.
More commentary on the eventual concepts of Shining and Cadence in the next few strips.
