Nice... and great name. The only think I'd change could be the font, I would used a more square/normal font. The colors of the photo are very good.

Thanks.

I'm rather partial to the font - I use it on about everything. Won't change that, sorry, but thanks for the concrit.

This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the colors right off the bat of course. I think you have a very nice eye for composition (have I ever told you that before?), though I would have to reccomend to try to make your focal point off-center (from an artistic.... erm, critical point of view of course). Of course the sun would be hard to reposition, and I don't exactly know how your camera angles worked at the time, I really think it would have been nice to see the sun towards the right where there is less grass to balence the more grassy area on the left. It.... feels like it's almost... tipping over to me in a way, since the left side is so much heavier than the right. It helps that some of the longer blades of grass on the right side are leaning towards the right, making it seem more weighty on that side.

Well, other than my over-extended blabberings about balence in a picture that it's hardly controlable (because I'm trying to give critique), I really love this peice. It's gorgeous!

Wow, thanks. I usually don't get that sort of concrit.

Looking at it again, I do see a balance problem. I can't fix it just by cropping, since if I crop this I lose the proportions, and I can't crop the original since that is the original. And the top of the dune was curved, if I had moved then the bottom bit would create even more imbalance. Grrrr. Though, I might have been able to go to a different dunetop, the ridge had a few that might have worked...

Blegh, now I'm rambling and giving excuses and so forth.

danke anyhow

you're welcome. I love good concrit too. Even though most of the time I might not use it right away, I try to keep it in mind on my next peice of art. My fault in that area is when people that, when I look at their gallery, isn't as good (or better) than I am, give me concrit, I have the tendency to take it hostilly. You know: "omg, this person's stuff is crap and they're trying to tell me how to draw?" Though, realistically I know that sometimes people that aren't artistically inclined can give a different type of perspective on things that someone who is can't. LOL

Another Ramble. I think that's fun haha!

Rambles are fun.

Me too. I got a comment about the angle of lighting on one pic. And... I could never apply it, unless I did some travelling and by some miracle had the exact same conditions as when I took it, but now that I know I that I actually need to pay attention to the angle of lighting, I do.

Though, some people may have an understanding of art, but can't apply what they know. Example, I can't draw worth lima beans, but that doesn't mean I can't do a critique of a drawing. If that makes sense?

I understand completely. But for me it isn't all that much of a seperate preference. It's more of being bad at anything, really. Like if you were really bad at photography (which you aren't), I would have qualms with you telling me anything about any kind of art, because you suck at the one you're "supposed" to be proficient in. But because you're bad at drawing but good at photography (which I'm the opposite), I respect your talents - for when it comes down to it, every avenue of art has the same principles. On the other hand, those people who are bad at anything and everything they try and do not have the experience that I do (those who do and are still bad gain worse respect than those just starting out), get shurked. LOL

What about music? Just because someone cannot play an instrument, or compose it themselves, doesn't mean you can't tell the difference between good/bad music (ignoring subjectivity on subject/genre.)

krissyp00 In reply to dresdenblue [2007-06-21 19:35:32 +0000 UTC]

well, of course music is different. I think it's because I'm not as much of a musician as an artist, so I don't have the.... prerequisites to be that... arrogant about music. I think music, involing the ears, is easier and more natrual - it's more about different tastes than anything, I'd say. I wouldn't like, say, my chemical romance, and I don't believe they make good music, but many people do - but it's because it's not may taste. *shrugs*

I think my concept of: good artist = good visual skills = good concrit VS bad artist = no visual competence = just trying to make themselves seem better than me when they know they're not, applies only to visual art lol

dresdenblue In reply to krissyp00 [2007-06-22 00:44:09 +0000 UTC]

Music is very similar to art. Really, any of the things that makes good art have equivalents in music. But genres in music - tastes - are just equivalent to different mediums in this art. The bands that make it to the top are at the top of that genre, so it's generally safe to call them 'good', even if they aren't to your 'taste'. Er, see the argument?
