Description
2 hours later, Smokescreen came back and Marxson got out. Melody could see that he was trying not to laugh, "You did something didn't you?" she asked.
"I don't know" Marxson replied innocently, he wasn't making eye contact, his hands were in his pockets, and he was rocking on his feet. Melody recognized the signs that he was being mischievous, she sighed.
"I've known you for a while now Marxson, I can tell when you pulled a prank, now what did you do?" she asked again. Marxson exchange glances with Smokescreen, then both of them busted out laughing, Marxson was holding his sides as he tried not to fall onto the floor from laughter. Melody never saw him laugh this hard.
He managed to calm down and pulled a picture out of his pocket, he held it out to her. Melody took it and looked at it; it was of a sports car, the front windshield and windows were covered in melted cheese, she was surprised, she didn't even know where he could have gotten the cheese, she was also surprised at the amount. Marxson was still trying not to laugh, Melody could see the humor, but she wasn't sure what he had done, did he simply dump it on the car?
Jack took the picture from her and looked it, then he began laughing, "This is Vince's car, he's a bully and a jerk that goes to my school" he said. Melody looked puzzled and she looked at Marxson.
"How did you do this without anyone noticing? Not only that what did you do?" she asked.
Marxson shrugged, "I replaced his windshield wiper fluid with melted cheese, which wasn't very hard, he had it parked in a lot by the docks, so it was really foggy, no one saw me and it only took a minute, we waited until he left. I dropped a bit of mud onto the windshield when he came to a stop, he went to clean it using the fluid and wipers, but instead the cheese came out instead" he explained. Melody was surprised, this prank was very thought out and quite elaborate at the same time.
Then Marxson noticed the look she was giving him, she was trying hard not to laugh, "What? Smokescreen told me that he's a real jerk who loves his car as much as he loves himself, which is a lot more then he likes anyone else" he said. Then he folded his arms, "Besides, we followed the rules Optimus gave to Smokescreen, he didn't abuse his power, he didn't reveal himself, and no humans were harmed in the process, it was all by my own hand, he just supervised" he added, Melody had to admit, he had a point.
Later that day, Marxson was sitting around, Miko had brought sandwiches for them, and he had eaten, so he was feeling better, but now he was bored, and boredom was not something he enjoyed. He wanted to spar, but he didn't have a partner to spar with, then he got an idea. He went over to where Ratchet had a pile of scrap metal, discarded, damaged tools he was not able to fix, and other bits and pieces, he silently began dragging pieces over to a corner. He knew Ratchet wouldn't mind, after he got what he wanted from the pile, he began building and putting pieces together.
He used tools from Jacks toolbox sitting nearby, he made sure to put them back when he was done with them, and he only used one at a time. Optimus noticed what Marxson was doing, and was interested in what he was up to, he went over and saw Marxson was putting the last piece in place; the final result was a sort of pole about the same height as Marxson, it had poles sticking out of it.
Then Marxson began punching it, the poles began spinning and coming back at him, only to be met with Marxsons fists, he also kicked at it as well, he would block blows, look for an opening, then he would strike. Then Optimus realized what he was doing, Marxson was sparring, and at the rate and speed he was going, he was skilled at it, he was also very experienced, not to mention fast and agile.
Optimus was impressed, perhaps the others could learn something from him, or vice versa, Marxson was skilled with hand to hand combat, he was interested to see what other skills he knew, and perhaps could learn new moves from them. Then Marxson jumped over the pole, landing on the other side of it, he began tossing blows at it with the back of his arms, before finally swinging back around and planting a final kick in the middle of it. He then became aware that he was being watched, and turned around, "I wasn't bothering you, was I?" he asked, Optimus shook his head.
"No, your training is interesting to watch" he replied.
"Thanks, I spar often, so I decided to improvise; Melody doesn't spar, I don't know if Jack, Raph, or Miko do anything like that, and I don't want to accidently hurt them. I also didn't think it would be a good match if I asked one of you guys to spar with me" Marxson replied.
Optimus kneeled down in front of him again, "Though it could seem unfair, it is possible" he said, Marxson was delighted at the thought of possibly sparring with one of the Autobots; he hoped that at some point he would be able to spar with Optimus eventually. "In order to train with the others, you will need protection" Optimus added. Marxson thought for a minute, then he had an idea, a light surrounded him as his appearance changed.
He was now wearing black and grey armor, it covered his entire body, he wore a helmet, his face still visible, but protected. He carried a katana, and a gun rested in a slot on his back, he looked at himself, impressed by his appearance. He somewhat resembled a combination of Smokescreen and Bumblebee in a ways.
He sheathed the katana in another slot on his back and looked up at Optimus, "Will this work?" he asked.
Optimus nodded, "Yes, that is fine, it will also be useful if you are attacked while out with Smokescreen" he replied.
"Perhaps I can accompany you when you go to look for the Relic? I could be useful" Marxson asked hopefully.
"Though I do not question your skills, it might not be wise, depending on the situation, perhaps when you become more accustomed to our type of fighting" Optimus replied. He then led Marxson into another room, it was large and wide open, there was a ton of room, and hardly anything in it. "This will be a suitable spot for sparring, especially against one of us" he explained.
A few minutes later he called Smokescreen into the room, "Would you like to train?" he asked, Smokescreen nodded.
"Against you sir?" he asked, Optimus shook his head, then he stepped to the side to reveal Marxson behind him, donned in his armor.
"You will be sparring against Marxson" he said.
Smokescreen looked puzzled, "With all due respect Optimus, I don't think this is such a good idea, even if he's wearing armor" he said, then something hit him in the head, a can clattered to the floor. Smokescreen looked down at Marxson.
"I need a sparring partner, so who better to start off with then my partner" Marxson said sliding into a fighting stance. Smokescreen still wasn't sure, then another can hit him in the head, now slightly irritated, he looked at Optimus who nodded, then Smokescreen did the same.
A few minutes later, Melody could hear a lot of thumping, she looked up from her book, she was sitting near Ratchet, who was started to get annoyed with the noise, was busy decoding the coordinates that Marxson had given. "What in Primus' sake is all that noise?" he asked.
Melody listened to the sounds carefully, "It sounds like sparring" she said, then she looked around, "Has anyone seen Marxson?" she asked.
Jack looked at her from his spot on the couch where he was playing video games with Raph, "I saw him talking to Optimus a while ago, before that, I heard him making a lot of noise doing something, I'm not sure where he is now" he replied.
"Speaking of missing, where's Smokescreen?" Arcee asked, then Melody realized something, "It could be possible that those two are the ones who are sparring" she said.
Miko, Jack, Raph and the others stopped and looked at her, "That is highly unlikely, a human sparring with an Autobot, doesn't sound like a fair match" Ratchet said.
"Either way, I'm going to see what all the noise is about" Melody said, and she got up and went in the direction the sounds were coming from, she came into the room to see that she was indeed correct. Marxson, who was wearing armor, was sparring with Smokescreen. Optimus was standing nearby, watching the two of them.
She came and stood next to him as they watched, she could see that Optimus was impressed with Marxsons fighting skills, he looked down at her, "He is quite skilled" he said.
Melody nodded, "He spars a lot, in almost every dimension we visit, he finds someone to spar, so he knows a lot of moves and tactics, this is also a way he makes a friend, since he knows Smokescreen already, he's now just getting to know him better, learning strengths and weaknesses, as well as his own limits" she replied.
Smokescreen was having a difficult time landing a blow on Marxson, his size playing a role on that fact. Marxson was smaller than him, and was able to dodge Smokescreen's blows easily, but he himself wasn't quite able to land a hard blow himself. But the blows he did land were a lot harder now, then if he wasn't wearing the armor. Then Smokescreen lost sight of Marxson, who had already proved that he was fast on his feet, he was almost dancing around his blows like they were nothing.
Then he felt something hit him between the shoulders taking him by surprise, Marxson jumped high into the air, grabbing onto Smokescreens shoulder, swinging himself around. Marxson used both his feet to deliver a blow to the side of Smokescreen's head, he then launched himself up into the air, landing on top of his head. Smokescreen shook his head in an attempt to shake Marxson off, but he was holding on tightly.
Smokescreen then reached up with both hands, in an attempt to catch Marxson, but was met with nothing. Marxson rolled down his back and landed on the ground, he then began landing hard blows to the back of Smokescreens legs, causing him to fall onto his back on the ground. This stunned Smokescreen, he was not expecting that kind of reaction from Marxson, he was confident that he was going to be the victor.
Then as he got up, he saw Marxson standing nearby, then Marxson bowed, Melody nodded, "That means he is ending the match to a draw, and also showing that he is both impressed and respecting your fighting skills" she explained, Smokescreen stood up and faced Marxson, he then did the same thing.
Both of them then turned and faced Optimus, he nodded, impressed with both their skills and sportsmanship, Melody was also impressed; that was only the second time that Marxson had fought against someone much bigger then him, and that had been when he had fought against Omnimon when they went to the Digital World, it had been a test to see if Marxson, in his new form, was the correct one to become a new leader; a Biomerged Warrior of night.
She was also impressed by his armor, this was the first time she had seen it, she tapped on his shoulder plates, "I like the armor, very impressive" she said.
Marxson nodded, then he examined himself, "Though, something tells me, I have yet to unlock all its secrets yet" he said.
Melody laughed, "Well, at least you have a new sparring partner" she said.
Marxson nodded, he then looked up at Optimus, "Uh, Optimus I was wondering, when I am strong enough, will you spar with me?" he asked, he tried not to look hopeful. Optimus kneeled down, and to Marxsons relief, nodded.
"Once you are strong enough, and after you master all the secrets your armor has to offer, then I will spar with you" he replied.
Marxson gave a short bow, "Thank you, I will look forward to that day, and I promise to get stronger until then" he said.
He switched back to his normal clothes and followed the others into the main room, "What was all that noise?" Ratchet asked.
Marxson looked up at Smokescreen, then back at him, "Just a friendly sparring match between me and Smokescreen" he said simply, and the others looked surprised.
"Whoa, you're serious? How did you manage not getting injured?" Jack asked, Marxson simply switched back to his armor, then allowed the others to examine it.
Miko tapped on his helmet, "So what's this made of?" she asked.
Marxson shrugged, "I'm not sure exactly" he replied as he waved her hand away with annoyance, "My forms and appearances can vary, depending on the dimension" he added.
Then Ratchet came over to him, "Would you mind if I scanned it? That may answer your question, I'm just as curious about it myself" he asked, Marxson nodded.
"Sure" he said, he then watched the light as it moved up and down his body and armor.
A minute later Ratchet looked surprised, "My readings indicate that your armor is made of the same Cybertronian metal as us" he said.
Melody was not surprised, I think I have an explanation for that" she said, the others looked at her, "In many of the other dimensions that we have visited. Marxson has gained a new form, whether it comes in the form of armor, or a complete physical change, and we've discovered that it can depend on what he has encountered most. Since he's only left the base once, he was still with Smokescreen, and he's been around you guys the rest of the time, even when he was on the Decepticons ship. His armor adapted so it was the same as you, in order for him to be more compatible in battle, as well as for protection" she explained.
Marxson switched back into his regular clothes, these were a bit different than before. Earlier, he had been wearing a red shirt and black pants, now he was wearing a black shirt with a red bandana, and dark grey shorts. Once again, Melody noticed the marks around his left ankle as he sat down on the couch with his feet propped up, "What gave you those marks?" she asked pointing to them, the question caught the attention of Ratchet, Optimus, and Smokescreen.
Marxson glanced at his ankle, he looked surprised, "I was not aware that I had those, I think it's from . . ." he paused, Melody saw his expressions start to change quickly.
She looked at Jack, Raph, and Miko, "Anger explosion in 3...2...1" as soon as she said one, Marxson snapped.
"Starscream! That twisted lowlife Decepticon did this to me!" he snapped, he jumped up and began pacing, it was now clear that his emotions had quickly turned from surprise to full out anger. “He carried me by the ankle the entire time, he also flung me by the ankle when he tossed me out the airlock, and he’s just lucky I'm not limping, or he would surely regret it" he growled.
Optimus looked at Melody, "Like I said, once he snaps, the results tend to be explosive" she explained shrugging. Optimus understood Marxsons anger, the threat the Decepticons were to the humans was rough as well, and there had been casualties.
"Is there a way to get him to stop?" Jack asked, Melody nodded, she reached into her pack and pulled out her pan flute.
"With the right song, he'll calm right down, it works every time" she replied.
"You sure that'll work?" Raph asked.
Melody nodded, "Marxson can react to different music, he has an incredible memory when it comes to sounds and music" then she thought for a minute. "His senses are also sharper then you may think" she added, she then put the pan flute to her mouth and began to play.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and listened as the gentle and soothing song began flowing through the air and echoed through the base, as soon as he heard the music. Marxsons pacing began to slow down, his ranting began to quiet until it stopped completely, he stopped moving and stiffened up, he then fell to his knees, his head facing up, his eyes were shut and a look of calm came over his face. Smokescreen noticed the change, as did Optimus and Ratchet.
As the song came to an end, there was a clatter as Marxson fell to the floor, his eyes shut, Miko nudged his shoulder with her foot, he didn't react, but he was breathing steadily, "I think he fell asleep" Miko said bending down to get a better look.
Melody nodded, "Normally, the music only calms him down, but since it was echoing through the base, it increased the effect on him, this is the first time he's fallen asleep to it" she replied, then she realized how late it was getting. "He was probably getting tired as well, so that probably also made him fall asleep" she added, she went over to where Marxson was laying, she wrapped one of his arms around her shoulder and lifted him up. Jack got his other side, they put him back onto the cot, and they had moved it into the sparring room, so he would have more privacy and space.
Melody pulled a blanket up over him, he sighed, now calm, comfortable, and happy. Melody then went home with Jack and June, she went to bed happy, that Marxson was alright, and that she'd soon see him again in the morning.
