Description So long time no submit
All i have right now is school stuff
this is my assignment for designing the label, logo and box for a newzealand made olive oil for export.
haven't got the marks back yet.
i've never really done packaging design before, it was quite fun.
p.s the colours in the photographs really don't do it justice, the actual colours are much more earthy and hott.
thanks.

feel free to comment, or critique, whatever, but i can't change the design for submission now, so it won't make a lot of difference

I think the design's simplicity enhances the new ageyness of the product

ok, so i like it

i think its great work, coming from nz myself, i think the hook is a good way to go, as you say the koru has been overdone already, is the tanslation for that something like earth with no waste??

Agreed on the hook...dont't need it. Just the way you have it on the box is fine. You could play on the earthy textures that NZ represents as in natural and that would have been enough.

But good work. Don't get lazy...!!! LOL

Doesn't the Maori fish hook have some sort of meaning, or maybe it was for luck or something!?! (i spent a bit of time in NZ a few years ago, but my memory's not good lol!) Maybe there's some way to tie it into a prolonged life message, as in Olive oil is soooo good for you! Okay, maybe it's a bit of a stretch, but it's worth a try lol!

I really like it and let's face it you'll never remember that name, so maybe the fish hook will make you remember the Maori one?

my initial thought is on the choice of maori design, the object looks like a weapon, or a fishing hook at best... neither of which have a great deal of relivance to olive oil.

generally looks very professional, but not quite believable. i cant see a logo like that getting past a boardroom. Its not unique or memorable. granted its good... but its not great.

not sarah james great anyway...

i agree, there is no relevance (it is a fishhook), but its better than having no cultural elements at all
if it were an actual job, i would have done it differently, ie, spent more time researching but as it stands, it's school, and i'm lazy, so it doesn't matter

i guess finding a cultural link between the maori and olive oil would be a bit of a stretch...

yeah seriously
i mean it's not like olive trees are native to nz or anything :/
i didn't want to just use some stupid koru design because that is just tooo obvious, and you have to be careful with what you choose because someone will take offence or will call you out on it. in the end i was just like fuck it, it looks nice so i'll leave it.

Thats pretty cool.

The only comment I have is on the B/W bottle.. The stroke on the illustration is so large, that it creates a ton of tension on the space, making me ignore the typography completely.

It works just fine on all the other bottles because of the color, but that area seems to cause trouble for you there..

How did you print & apply the labels? They look quite good.

the thing is it's not actually black
it's a dark green, and the stroke is a tint of said green
it looks a lot better in the flesh, my photography skills leave a lot to be desired
i just printed the labels on regular 80gsm paper, and stuck them on the bottle with a glue stick
