Description We live beneath the shadows of greater men.
Whose spirit is invoked each time our feet touch this field,
Men who are remembered in their home towns,
Men who are remembered in 16 mm film and radio news.
There are those who think it is all over.
It is never over.
Nine times we have been made
and broken on this finish line.
Thirty six years of salt
have been rubbed into this wound.
This burden is only released when we enter the pitch.
The freedom from its weight helps us to fly.
And when we fly, it is always towards their glory.
Always towards their glory.
There are those who think it is all over.
It is never over.

I love football (aka soccer) very nice poetry! I've grown up on soccer since I was 4. I'm a huge fan.

I'm so excited about this project! ^_^ I grew up with a soccer player/coach & fanatic for a dad ^_^

this, and South Africa, are wonderful pieces. Can't wait to see the rest.

oh, and with regard to the South Africa piece, Paul Simon rocks...mmm... Graceland...
